It’s impressive, but I think a stretch to call it arguably the greatest 3 year playoff run ever. Off the top of my head Jordan from 91-93, Jordan from 96-98, Lebron from 12-14, and Lebron from 16-18 would be better.
Just food for thought:
Jordan scored 1.954 points in the three playoff runs from 91-93, playing 58 games.
Kobe scored 1.999 points in the three playoff runs from 08-10, playing 67 games.
So Jordan would only have needed to score 5 ppg over additional 9 games to match that total if he had played the same amount of games. As you already hinted: Kobe could only set the record linked in the OP due to the amount of games played which became more likely due to rule changes in the playoff format.
To the Kobe fans: That doesn't make his performance in those years bad. By no means. But a depiction of this record setting player is often taken for being the best, too. And that he was not.
The claim that Kobe set the all-time record for +/- as stated in the tweet is false anyway. You're right: LeBron had a +/- of +395 in the three playoffs runs from 12-14 (while playing 66 games). 2018 does him no favor as he had a -22 in those playoffs, but he surpassed the 12-14 figure with +481 in the runs from 15-17 (playing 59 games).
Curry had +458 from 15-17 as well (playing 56 games) and Shaq had +419 from 00-02 (in 58 games), and old Tim Duncan posted +389 from 12-14 (58 games)... Kobe doesn't even have the highest +/- for a shooting guard over 3 playoff runs as Ginobili got +421 from 03-05. Which shows that the tweet was quite some BS (even only considering contemporaries Kobe didn't have a top 5 rating in box score +/- over a three-year playoff run. He did not set that record) and it also shows how little that stat is worth as it doesn't account for the share the player actually had by himself. Only players on stable great teams can accumulate such numbers, and playing a lot of games helps a lot here (so no "fo-fo-fo" player setting such a record) and great teams need more contribution than just from one single player.
The whole setup is questionable as you're also right that we don't have numbers before 97 for +/-. Essentially one gets rewarded for one's team not closing out a series faster, anyway. Very suspect to do so and taking other players out of the equation when their respective teams might have been way more dominant (maybe also due to the superstar playing even better than Kobe did in 08-10).

Aaaaw, do you feel disturbed now when jacking off to something nice about Kobe?

Come on: When claims are false or at least misleading there's reason to correct them or to put them into context.

Kobe is a Top 5 player ever, his quality was evident, it's just that he played in the toughest era ever.

This is actually what you would want people to do, it would be terrible if people didn't fact check or analyze claims and just said, "okay, since you said so".
I think some highlighted in this thread why the tweet could have served the purpose of being "something nice", much better. Instead the tweet made claims like arguably the greatest, only, and all time highest.
Thinking you're going to post anything with those kinds of claims and not get fact checking would be extremely naive.

So Duncan beat him and Shaq ( two all nba first teamer in their prime) at their apex without someone of consequence… he is Top 4 then using your logic.
The absolute absurdity people use to prop up Kobe is pail and pathetic.
You want to know what greatness is… is not having to lie about accomplishments. What greatness is, is not jerking off to a series in 01. What greatness is not tearing down teammates to prop X player.
I get it, this past week Shaq has been talking out of his ass saying absurdities as well. Maybe fans of Kobe have this tick that they can’t let go because he is no longer here. I can go on and on.
The thing is that threads like these and the Shaq one, all that does is get that absolute crème of the crop crap posters, Stans and Homers out.

Locking this thread for 2 reasons:
- Most of the responses are just people baiting each other. This topic is producing very little quality basketball discussion.
- The tweet this topic is based on, and the title of this thread, are a bit statistically misleading and not even using the right words to describe what they mean. Total raw plus minus is not the same as box plus minus. It's still an impressive feat for Kobe, to lead a really great playoff team to that many deep runs and accumulate that data, but the way the stats are presented here, and the way people are discussing this, the data is being badly misunderstood. Kobe is a great player, but this thread isn't helping us understand why.
