I think the only punishment they can give him is to terminate his contract and take away his Bird rights. That’s what happened with Joe Smith.
So he might be making less money next year and he might not be on the Clippers, but I can’t see him actually getting suspended.
My gut feeling is something like this. I'm not well versed on the Smith details, but it seems there's strong evidence Leonard's team was actively asking for these kinds of illegal deals from multiple teams. If the case it wouldn't shock me if the league and ultimately the player's association decide to send a message here.
