You might be too young but Dirk cooked Garnett and the Timberwolves in the 02 playoffs. I think Jokic would get his against Garnett. Wallace as well. Duncan would be the best defender of those three against Jokic.

Dirk never got cooked by a 6'4 guard tho.

Dirk got cooked by the 42-win Warriors in the first round.

The smaller defenders did better against Dirk than prototypical power forwards of his generations. If a quick hands guard gives you problem away from the basket it's coach's job to rearrange the offense and put you in position to use your advantages.

As for the defense. Well, Dirk wasn't the best defender to put it mildly. But team defense solved a lot of issues back in the day. The best example of course involved brilliant Tyson Chandler but even with Dampier/Diop duo it was ok (plus a variery of strong forwards). Put Nikola in those juggernaut Mavericks teams instead of Dirk and he would look very nice.

We Believe Warriors destroyed Dirk by throwing Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson at him.

They have several

They literally were so stacked they cut lottery pick Nikola Topic from the team.

They're so stacked that they cut a guy who hasn't played a single NBA game yet, and are loaded with two career bench players with negative EPMs (one of whom is at the end of his career).

This is exactly what I meant. Nellie was smarter than Avery.

Nellie somehow convinced Avery it was a good idea to counter the W's small ball by playing small ball themselves. I don't know how he never figured out that was the only way the W's had any chance.

Matt Barnes and Jax were both tall guards, 6'7 and 6'8. Less embarrassing than getting cooked by someone nearly a foot smaller.

Never said they were superstars. There are only 5-6 players i consider to be that in the entire world. I said they were stacked, which they were. What other team can afford to cut a NBA lottery pick like Topic? Also let's not forget they had Vasilije Micić as well, who last played in the NBA.

You can try to belittle their roster all you want, (Jokic fans love doing this) , but the fact is Serbia was heavy favorites for a reason and an overweight Jokic wasn't enough to carry them once they lost their leader, their Batman aka Bogdan Bogdanović.

We were big favourites, I watched the warm up games & had my concerns with letting teams hang around, the fact Bogdan got injured was a massive blow to the team, Jokic & Bogdan play well off each other.

Barnes is a bad defender. Caruso is an all time great one...

Lol not saying he didnt but im also not the one saying that Garnett would cook the Joker….Garnett was an elite defender but Jokic would get his against Garnett. It Dirk can against him, i think Jokic could too.

Garnet was not the primary defender on Dirk

I said Dirk cooked Garnett and the Timberwolves….Dirk had 30 or more in all 3 games. Maybe the best defender on the team should have been the primary defender? Nah….Wally can stop him lol

maverick_41 wrote:No, we are silent because we stand for Nikola today just as we did yesterday. In Slavic culture it's ok to stay loyal. Yesterday you won a championship, the day before yesterday you came back from 3-1 deficit twice, today you did the best you could but it was different outcome - it's ok, we still proud. Have you ever seen fans in Belgrade? The teams don't win a lot these days internationally, but Zvezda and Partizan fans are always supportive.

Kirilenko is a good example of such approach. We are grateful for 2007 Eurobasket and a handful of remarkable seasons for Utah and CSKA. 99% of people don't talk about lost Euroleague finals or NBA injuries and early playoff exits. We all have bad days at work. Andrei represented the country, cared about winning, even won accolades - very good memories, thank you.

If Nikola is no longer allowed to play NBA because he lost to Finland in August, he is welcome in Moscow.

AK47 owes a lot of that credit to JR Holden being naturalized by Russia. He even hit the game winner to clinch the gold.

Garnett was an elite defender like i said but Dirk wasnt shut down by Garnett even when Garnett was defending him. Not saying it was Garnetts fault because Finley was getting his too and Garnett cant defend everyone, but Jokic would not be completely stopped or “cooked” by Garnett. Garnett would score on Jokic and Jokic would score on Garnett.

Just pointing out that Garnett wasn’t the primary defender. And Dirk also wasn’t being double teamed in that series so it’s not a reflection of Garnett’s ability to defend any more than Shaq getting his numbers going against Ben Wallace 1v1 isn’t a reflection of how great of a defender he was

Same reason scouts don’t put much weight into college prospects and the tournament. One and done does not really let you find out who the best team and players are. If the NBA had one and done tournament for championships I’m willing to bet the vast majority of winners wouldn’t be the same. Such a small sample size that it allows for flukes and non stars getting on heaters.
