Free throws.

Post#1 » by AleksandarN » Today 5:32 am

It got to stop Holly **** man. You got players getting hacked in the paint no call. But heaven forbid someone breathes on someone driving to the basket. At this rate we will past last years total in the first month

The number of 40+ and 50+ point games already is pretty staggering. The offensive inflation is off the charts.

No point in having any sort of big man or low post offense anymore. Just get little shifty floppers and have a free throw contest with the other team.

last year NBA teams shot an average of 21.7 free throws per game, this year they are shooting an average of 28.2 free throws per game. Adam Silver is ruining the game on and off the court

Zion, Giannis, Sengun, Wemby, Banchero, AD are all averaging a ton of free throws. Giannis has led the NBA in FTA most of the last 8 years.

You need bigs who can pressure the rim in any league. Stupid comment

Everyone decided they would try to play like OKC on defense, of course everyone can't, but refs didn't get the memo

When Giannis shoots free throws it’s because he was fouled. When SGA or AR shoot free throws it’s because they initiated shoulder to chest contact with the defender then hurled themselves to the floor and chucked up some bull **** shot.

Guys like Giannis and Jokic attack with the propose of putting the basketball into the hoop. SGA and AR attack with the purpose of flopping and throwing the ball up in the general direction of the rim. It’s totally different.

While I see plenty of bad calls and flops, I feel the free throw complaints have turned into a rage bait cycle. Most fouls are just fouls and are the fault of the defender, either playing undisciplined defense, or just getting overwhelmed by the offensive player.

I'll complain about a few fouls per game while I'm watching. I'm bored by the people who spend all this time on the internet turning fouls into a crisis. The free throw rate has been trending down consistently since the 90s. In 1987, a full 30% of possessions ended in free throws. It's been closer to 20% for the past 8 years. FTA are up a lot to start the season, but we're 3 games in so this is only worth talking about if it somehow keeps up over 20 games.

Thunder winning really was terrible for basketball. Foul grifting and fouling on defense is what everyone is looking to emulate.

You can't get clicks without stupid numbers on the thumbails/IG posts. Gotta inflate those stats. We'll have 200 point games at this rate.

C'mon man, WWE feel? WWE is way more legitimate than the NBA at this point. Don't shortchange them.

They can, it just takes time to develop. The officials have to get accustomed to a team playing so physically before that team starts getting the benefit of the doubt. You have to establish that baseline and it takes time.

Free throws have gotten a bit out of control, but these are essentially all legit fouls. 1 was a 50/50 block/charge and 1 was a slight push off before the actual foul. Other than that, mostly bad defensive discipline and reaching
