I'd resign mediocre players on my team to massive one year contracts knowing that there's a chance said player can yield a star in return. Like, I mean every year just resign 1 player on your team for max money.
If you get a star in a trade, great. If not, your player comes off the books at the end of the year. No harm no foul.
