haha, these POINTLESS threads would get locked immidiately in the Lakers forum, that is why they thrive here in the GB.

KOBE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A POSITION HIS ENTIRE CAREER TO WIN MVPS EXCEPT FOR THIS YEAR.

For the first part of his career, he played with Shaq. And no matter what he accomplished with Shaq. you would have the myopic Kobe haters telling everyone that it was all Shaq and Kobe would suck without Shaq. So he wasnt in a position to an MVP for about 7 years of his career. Kobe knew this but still choose to resign with the team after his rookie contract in order to win championships. He gave up personal accolades to win rings but yet hes selfish. Makes alot of sense to me.

And since Shaq was traded, the Lakers have not had a good enough supporting cast around Kobe to get the lakers a top record which is needed to win an MVP.

So in other words, Kobe not having an MVP is not necesarily because he wasnt good enough to win one. Its because he didnt have the right circumstances around him to get one.

It amazes me to no end that people still question Kobes leadership and ability to carry a team when he was one rebound away from the 2nd round in the Western Conference with starters like Smush Parker, Luke Walton, Kwame Brown, and Brian Cook as his 6th man. No other player in the league would have been able to do with that team what Kobe did.

Then why compare him to either MJ? It's not that Kobe isn't a great player, he is, but when you have fans saying and comparing him to guys who are top 5 all time and Kobe has no League nor Finals MVP's its a major reason why people give him too little or too much credit.

People talk about the MVP award being a joke but what happens if Kobe wins MVP? Why shouldn't everyone dismiss his award as being tainted too?

I mean, if you don't like the winner of the MVP award you can always pretend that your favorite player should have won it. Not that there aren't situations that deserve to be challenged, but the Kobe situation has always been primarily his fans complaining about him not receiving it and not a general outcry from the NBA fan community.

If someone thinks the award was tainted before their favorite player won it, then how does it suddenly not become untainted once he does.

Here's my thing on the taint of the award:

Reasonable minds can differ as to whether the right person won the award. Seldom is there a unanimous winner, so obviously reasonable minds do differ. It doesn't make the award tainted, just makes me disagree with the voters.

If you really want to argue that the MVP is nonsense or tainted, then you disagree with either the process (fans or coaches or a different group of people and not writers, post season should count, etc.) or you think the process is somehow poisoned (D.Stern huddles into a room and purposefully miscounts the votes to serve his evil needs).

If you are the former - then you can say - I disagreed with the last 6 awards, but this one I agree with. That's fine.

if you are the later, then you cannot suddenly agree with the award, just because your favorite player got it.

So basically, if Kobe ever wins an MVP award his fans shouldn't use it to legitimize it's greatness since according to them every MVP award since Nash's first has been "tainted".

I have gone on record numerous times saying the MVP is worthless as long as the coaches/players don't get to decide who wins it. But I do think it would be humorous to see the media vote for a guy they despise.
