What is the NBA made of? Million dollar players. Its unfortunate that money corrupts things that we most cherish but its influence is undeniable. The players will tell you that the love of the game and hard work is what brought them to the NBA. True, but what has sustained them once they got there? The two factors of love and hard work often get traded for greed and talent. No player in this league will tell me that money does not make them feel good about what they do. Contracts distinguish players from bad, average, good, and great. Contracts represent status and power. Remove a players contract and you have removed his will to play. I am not saying the best players in the world should not be praised for what they do, just not glorified. Power corrupts all. It is human nature. Money gives us power in this society and the NBA must be careful how much power it gives. The risk is great. If you ask a player what he plays for, its to win a championship. Its not love of the game, but its to win. And if you can help your team win, you'll be given power. There is no second place in basketball. You either win or lose. When a player signs that contract he has not reinstated his passion, but his new found responsibility centered on power and greed. Power to win, greed to push you forward, and talent to sustain you.
What has happened to a simple game centered on the concept of team play? I say no to "star" players. No multi-million dollar contracts. No unfair privileges. It is a team game, centered on the fundamentals of love and hard work. Please NBA, don't further create something that was not supposed to be, its not basketball anymore, its something I don't recognize anymore.

while it is true that many nba players are greedy, this is just the way the world is. as wu tang clan would say, "cash moves everything around me"...there's nothing that can be done about it. money is the reason that doctors go to school for 10 years, the reason that i-bankers work 80 hour weeks. as weird as it is to see professional athletes turn down multi-million dollar contracts because they think they deserve more, the fans who are complaining are the same ones who are promoting these extravagant lifestyles by attending games and buying jerseys. personally, i feel that the nba has provided me with hours upon hours of entertainment, and as long as i'm not footing the bill, im not complaining. if you have a problem with it, start watching ncaa basketball. most of those guys know that they dont have a chance to make millions, and are truly playing for the names on the front of their jerseys.

So the people who graduate as engineers should design things for free because they should be passionate about what they do?
Doctors should give free medical care because they should love what they do and not the money they make?
Do you understand supply and demand?
This is one of the dumbest posts I've seen.
I swear, people have no logic sometimes like the OP.

I think its plain silly that players make the kind of money they do while teachers, lawyers, parents, doctors arent making nearly that much to do something that is more than just entertainment. The reason i continue watching and really dont think about what the players are making is because if they werent making it, the owners would be making even more, I would rather the athletes who are actually gifted in what they do and work hard every day and practice for hours, making all that money instead of guys who buy teams and just spectates while he rakes in 100's of millions of dollars.

Correct. If the players aren't making the money, the NBA business would be the most profitable in the world for owners.
The OP doesn't understand that the NBA generates a huge amount of money and that money has to go somewhere. If it isn't going to the players, it is going to the owners who do even less for the "team" the OP is talking about.
