I didn't know that. Props to him. However, replace KG and Kobe with Rasheed Wallace and whoever, its still a marketing ploy first, and help (to the eyes of the NBA) second

If David Stern cared about the fans he would be advocating for the Sonics to stay in the Seattle area.

Stern is a lawyer whose job is to represent the owners of NBA franchises . . . not the players (they have a union), not the fans, the owners. As such, I think you have to say that he has done a great job overall, best of any major sports league commissioner.

That said, being an efficient businessman does not mean you don't care about others so long as it doesn't get in the way of your bottom line. Look at the many robber barons of capitalism who have created giant foundations to try to help in various ways. You just compartmentalise your business interests and your outside interests so your charity work aids or at least doesn't conflict with maximizing long term profit.

I really hope the team stays, but what can he do if the leaders of Seattle and the owner of the team do not cooperate?

What he helped do here in New Orleans this past week was wonderful and much appreciated. What a magical week it has been!

Stern really has no clout when it comes to the seattle issue, blaming him for it is stupid. (even if your just calling him out for not supporting them staying seattle)

They are moving from seattle for a reason, the fans simply dont go to games. Thats ownerships **** up, not David Sterns
