The Superman "dunk" was nice but it's not even close to top 5. I like his tap dunk a hundred times more.

Seriously, the Superman didn't get much of a reaction from me at all. Very overrated dunk.

Most of the surprise of the dunk itself came with the custom, it took some deal of creativity to come up with that.

Rodney Carney almost made a dunk about 4-5 inches behind the FT line, in a college dunk contest. He had the ball bounce off the rim, but he didn't want to try it again because he didn't want to get hurt.

i'm just glad that 99% of the figures in the NBA are calling it a dunk and are giving him his just deserts...beyond deserved...beyond...Stern probably just bought Howard a summer home in the Hampton's for breathing some life into the contest...

It's funny looking back at dunk highlights on youtube every year they say the dunk contest is back after every big dunk.

Such an overrated dunk.

I agree.

MJ is the GOAT, but that FT line dunk was overrated.

#1 Dominique Wilkins was robbed in Chicago with all Chicago judges.

#2 Jordan didn't create that dunk and it was the 2nd time he did it

I think Woolridge did it around 85ish, I could be mistaken though.

Nope, you're right; Woolridge did it in the first NBA Dunk Contest: 1984.

the best dunk of all-time didn't even occur in a contest. Vince Carter putting his nuts in Fredrick Weiss' mouth is the best dunk. I loved iteven better because Weiss was the scrub the Knicks took instead of taking Ron Artest, WHO IS FROM AND WENT TO COLLEGE IN NY.

Dr J. stepped over the line too..

oh my comment included Dr. J.

I was just saying from all the players I have ever seen do the FT dunk in the NBA dunk contest (including DR J) Brent Barry's looked the closest to the FT line.

I'd say from what I've seen Scottie Pippen took off from the farthest. The middle of Barry's shoe is on the FT line when he takes off, and the toe of Pippen's shoe is on the FT line when he takes off.

2.VC 360 windmill.

3.Jason Richardsons off the backboard through the legs.

4. Spud Webb's Lob+reverse jam

5. JR Smith behind the back / VC's Mcgrady to between the legs.

How can anybody in this thread have a top 5 list without Vince Carter in it?

1. Vince Carter 360 windmill
2. Jason Richardson off the backboard between the legs.
3. Vince Carter elbow dunk.
4. MJ's freethrow dunk.
5. Dwight Howard's tap.

1. Vince Carter 360 Windmill - incredible display of power and grace. It's amazing he was able to sling that ball around while in the air and still hold on to it, it was just so fluid.

2. Superman - homer pick, i'll probably change this down the line when the novelty wears off. But, I will say this. For those that don't know, today on Mike & Mike, Dwight said he purposely threw it in instead of the traditional dunk in which you touch the rim. Dwight said he wanted it to go the way it did (throwing it) because it looked so much more powerful and something Superman would do. I chose it because of it's energy and creativity. It electrified that crowd. Very rarely do you see someone pull out a prop and the entire crowd instantly stands up and gets excited. Plus he jumped that far from two feet, truly impressive.

3. Jason Richardson's backboard between the legs - We'd seen these moves separately, but this was the first time in the contest we had seen someone pull two huge moves together. Had me flabbergasted when he did it.

4. Carter's elbow dunk - had never seen it before, was truly amazed someone could get their arm in the hoop like that, and hold themselves on there with their elbow. Plus it's a pretty risky dunk, if he slips and his arm gets caught it snaps.

5. Dwight Howard's tap - Truly innovative. I have never seen someone do this before. This is going to open a flood gate with new dunkers trying to improve on it by adding to it or incorporating it. This dunk more than any other may have put some creativity back into the contest and brought it back (if it is able to come back).
