It wasn't a cap move. Kirk Snyder has been out of the rotation in Houston all season and hasn't even smelled the bench in months. He wanted out and Morey had been trying for a long time to find a place for him, and at the last minute they found one in Minnesota. Getting Gerald Green was pretty much an added bonus for Houston -- the main objective was moving Snyder.

The body, no but he doesn't take open lanes when he sees them, in the games I've watched. And his handle is murderously underdeveloped but to be frank, it takes little in the way of handles (the kind you had in elementary school) to take advantage of screens and he's crap at that.

You can spin it however you want... Green isn't a rotation player just like Snyder.

Look at the difference in salaries...

The Rockets were on the brink of the lux tax and with the recent trades they will get a nice 2. something million dollar rebate...

Uh, Snyder isn't a rotation player. He wasn't even getting to suit up this season at all. Gerald Green has actually played a ton more minutes than Kirk Snyder over the past couple of seasons.

And that isn't spin. The Houston Chronicle had a report several weeks ago about Snyder asking to be traded, and Daryl Morey actually responded (on local radio I believe) about how he had been trying hard to find a home for him...long before yesterday's trade.

Getting mins on sorry( sub 25 win teams) teams doesn't mean you are a rotation player.

Fact is that the Rockets are going to get a rebate check due to the recent trades they did on the deadline.... if you want to ignore that fine... it doesn't really matter at all.

Even if Green doesn't play a minute, Houston cuts nearly $1 million off its cap number -- which, coincidentally puts them nearly $1 million under the luxury tax. Needless to say, that money could prove helpful if a veteran comes along they'd like to sign while staying under the tax threshold

If you'll read carefully, you'll notice that I never once made the claim that Gerald Green was a rotation player.

Don't you just love RealGM arguments?

How? All I said about Green was that getting him was merely an added bonus, and that the primary objective wasn't him but rather moving Snyder. You are the one who made that inference out of thin air.

Pretty much all true. Basically we saved almost $1M in that trade. Which means we could afford to waive a player(which we just did) and sign somebody for veteran minimum without getting into the luxury tax zone. And that somebody could very well be Brent Barry.

Btw, is Barry set to come back to SA?

Well he would have to wait 30 days before we can sign him. There is a chance he signs back with us given that he is very invested into the SA community and is a good locker room guy but I am sure he will look at all options and if he gets some teams part of MLE or LLE from a team he should take it. He is hurt so maybe that gives him time to look at every situation.

I just Hope GG can come in and provide cutting, finishing, and spot up shooting. If he can create on his own then that's a plus. Recently, we've seen that if you can catch a ball and dunk it then you'll find a place in the Rockets rotation. Carl Landry is making his living off of Yao/Mcgrady double teams and getting multiple dunks per night. If GG can just make some decent cuts, he should be alright for us. Unfortunately, that's a big IF though...

I thought you guys were doing a Dallas/NJ Stackhouse thing, but only smarter. I don't think Kurt Thomas is worth Elson + Barry and a 1st rounder

This was a great trade to send this kid down to Houston with T-Mac, now Gerald Green can learn how to be an absolute waste of talent from the master himself!!!
