He occasionally has big shot-blocking performances (the 10-block game comes to mind) but isn't stellar in that regard imo. Marion's an elite rebounder who can force turnovers and still scores enough to get by, more so than Amare's rebounding. I'll take rebounding over scoring, especially when the rebounder is a better defender even if he isn't DPOY-worthy.

Doctor MJ, my comment about Amare getting the max wasn't to say that he didn't deserve that contract, it was to make light of the TD/KG being the only guys thing.

He gets steals and blocks, but he gets lit up by anyone he guards, he can't guard bigs when he is at the 4, and when he slides over and guards whoever Raja isn't guarding, he still gets lit up. Even Amare is blocking a lot of shots right now(2.3 per game IIRC), Marion is a better rebounder, but his whole game falls apart in the playoffs when the pace slows, and he disappears in crunch time, when Amare steps up.

Another reason as to why he's off to a slow start in Miami. he isn't that great in the half-court stuff, which is what Miami runs, because it just doesn't have the personell to run a full fledged fast break possession after possession.

The only team other than Phx who Marion might fit better with are the GS Warriors....

Marion's deficiencies in the half-court are what worry me about him.

He should never have been guarding PFs and Raja guards SGs. You conveniently omitted SFs, the guys Marion should be guarding, and he isn't bad at it.

The big thing I can see is that Amare's picked up his game this season, as expected. In fact, Marion's looked a little worse too, thus completing the swap. I already conceded that though.

To be honest, I never saw any one Sun as a guy who really made my jaw drop in every way, it was more so the sheer mass of talent on that team.

Haven't read the entire thread - but does anyone actually believe this story? It's coming from Vescey, and unless Marion is a complete idiot - he knows that he isnt worth a max contract. I can't imagine he's that stupid. Sounds more like Vescey being Vescey.
