The last time I checked, the Celtics were the league's best with a .810 record, leading the league by 5.5 games.

I dont think he sucks, but I do think that he's overrated.

He's overrated because his supporting cast is incompetent, and the team is losing boatloads of games. If they were winning, he'd be just right.

Why force a trade to a 2nd tier team? Players force trades to go to contenders.

And certainly no one wanted to go to LA with Kobe recently.

really? Is that why Kobe was so mad this past summer becuase he field many calls from players in the league that wanted to come play with Kobe and Kobe then contacted Mitch and Mitch said he would " look into it" and nothing would come of it. This was confirmed by multiple people and was one of the main drivers that pissed off Kobe this past summer...

they need to figure some things out in san antonio - because scoring 8 points in the 4th quarter doesn't look like the best team.

i mean, the hornets are decent defensively, but they aren't the rockets, pistons or celtics either. they need to step up against divisional opponents.

i can't get over only scoring 8 points!

and at least record wise, the c's are on top.

Get over it... We scored 5 points vs the Hawks in one qtr... :nonono:

Well Boston had the assets to make the trade they did, and to be honest I don't think either Minnesota nor Seatle really got ripped off. Minnesota traded someone that was asking to be traded for a while and they got a hell of a good young big, which is certainly not easy to get. Seattle retools, gets very good young player in Green, makes cap room, etc.. Boston ofcourse gets great today instead of tomorrow.

Hardly. Dallas isn't a contender.

Because no team wants to trade with Cleveland considering their bad contracts ?

I mean would you rather have a disgruntled star or a bunch of overpaid scrubs ?

All I can do is look, and see no free agents signed for less to play in Cleveland, LA, Miami or a host of other places. So whether or not Kobe or LeBron or Wade "fielded" calls, nothing came of it. Cassell went to Boston. Stoudemire went to the Spurs. The recent free agents have choosen Boston and San Antonio over other places.

I am not sure what the has to do with your comment that nobody wanted to play with Kobe over the past few seasons. When in fact, many players contacted Kobe and wanted to play with him. Of course free agents ( especially older guys like Cassell and Damon) are going to get bought out and go to contenders.

Nothing came of it, because mangement choose to stand put. ( which worked out well in hindsight) but the fact remains players have wanted to come to LA and players have wanted to play with Kobe.

The 2 guys you mentioned ( cassell and damon) were not wanted or needed in LA and you can be sure the Lakers will be a FA destination for years to come with Kobe.

Oh, it is now. They're an experienced, contending team now. It wasn't when the team was younger and building (2004-07). That's why guys wanted OUT then (GP, Malone not coming back). I'm just saying, no older free agents are attracted by the concept of playing with a younger star/team like LeBron or Kobe a few years ago. They want to play with guys from their generation. And I'm talking about older free agents signing for less, not guys looking to be traded.

Because they want to be on a contender where they'll have a chance to be the best player. In Cleveland, they wouldn't be able to have both.

Those are your BEST ( capped for dramtic effect ..see above) examples? There is not a person from ownership to fan that didnt want Payton OUT, he sucked for the Lakers. Malone? 40

I'm just saying, no older free agents are attracted by the concept of playing with a younger star/team like LeBron or Kobe a few years ago.

Well the title is misleading. Considering Shaq and KG were traded. The guys like Cassell and Stoudamire are not going to be that impactful vs. a guy like KG.

If this thread is about older players trying to hitch a ride, then I dont see why they would have wanted to play on the Lakers. However, the reason we are in thi debate is because you made mention that players havent wanted to play with Kobe recently. The funny thing is- players have desired the Lakers w/Kobe when the team was an 7th/8th seed like the past 2 years and not a team fresh off the finals.

They want to play with guys from their generation. And I'm talking about older free agents signing for less, not guys looking to be traded.

hmmm.. I am not sure about that. They want to win a title , really. And that team has got to want them and vice versa. Again, the premise is kind of skewed here because we are talking about Shaq and KG vs. Cassell and Damon in the same sentence..
