Does Iverson deserve a 6 year extension?

I concur wholeheartedly that Miller would be a WAY better fit. And I do agree that AI is not the Nuggets' only problem.

In point of fact, I'd contest that AI is more of a passive barrier, that his presence is holding them back from realizing how badly they need change, which is less a criticism of AI himself and more a critique of how he isn't the best fit for Denver and the myopic nature of Mark Warkentien.

They've got issues with defense, their frontcourt, floor balance, all kinds of stuff, it most certainly isn't pinned on AI. And again, AI is playing the best ball of his career right now, I don't want it to seem like Denver's travails are HIS fault, just that he doesn't fit stylistically.

And again, Miller would be an AWESOME fit.

JR has improved because of his role coming off the bench. melo has improved his all around game since Iverson has been around. I'm not sure if JR improves or melo becomes a more complete player without AI.

Looking at Melo during the Summer Olympic practices, he looked like he was going to improve with or without AI. He has a pretty good training regimen. Maybe you can argue they try harder, because they realize their chances of winning are greater with AI than without....but in no sense do I think AI is the reason they improved.

It's common sense man. Melo doesn't have to handle the whole scoring load and can concentrate on other aspects. It's more of an indirect thing, same with the talent around him on the Olympic squad.

This is Iverson's easily best year ever statistically.

An iron man can last so long before he rusts.

FWIW, he's not really an iron man. He's missed a ton of games and has often exacerbated injuries by playing when he shouldn't.

What he is, however, is a murderously tough-minded SOB.

I didn't realize he has missed 4x as many games as the likes of true iron-men in KG and Kobe.

AI has missed a total of 212 games in his career
KG has missed a total of 41 games
Kobe has missed a total of 93 games

93 missed games in 12 total years.

That's an average of 7.7 missed games a year. I'd love it if a super star missed only about that many games a season.

The Nuggets don't have to give Iverson and extension and if I were them, I wouldn't. I would make him play another great season next year then when he is a FA, we will negotiate with him. If he leaves, so be it, but I don't see the point where they HAVE to give him an extension.

There is no rush and in these lean financial times along with the luxury tax, if AI became a problem they could easily move his expiring contract to a team (i.e. the Knicks) that wouldn't mind renting him for a half season.

Iverson is great but if you can say, sign and trade him to Portland for LaFrentz/Aldridge/2008 1st. don't you have to do that trade?

He's missed 12, 11, 22, 0, 34, 7, 10 and 17 games in the 8 seasons prior to this one, or an average of just over 14 missed games a season (just over 16 if in the 7 seasons he missed games).

He in no way deserves a 6 year extension at near-max money. That would be insane, and not even the Nuggets management would seriously consider it. However, I would be willing to gaurantee him a 6 year contract, at about 8 million a year, with easy performance incentives which could bump up his pay.

Whether he would be willing to do that, I don't know.

I don't see why not. They could always buy him out.

Nuggets

Would you give Iverson, who will turn 33 in June, the six-year extension he wants or risk him becoming disgruntled next season in the last year of his contract? Remember

I would give him the $ he wants but not the years.
