ESPN error?

Post#1 » by rewill17 » Wed Apr 30, 2008 2:31 am

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2 ... ies=denlal

it says Denver was the first 50 win team to get swept in the first round, but looking at past records this is not remotely correct!

> in 1989, the 2nd seeded 51-31 Utah Jazz got swept in the first round by the Warriors

> in 1991, the 6th seeded 52-30 Houston Rockets got swept in the first round by the Lakers

> in 1994, the 4th seeded 50-32 Orlando Magic got swept in the first round by the Indiana Pacers

> in 2001, the 7th seeded 50-32 Portland Trailblazers got swept in the first round by the Lakers

> in 2002, the 5th seeded 50-32 Minnesota Timberwolves got swept in the first round by the Mavericks

> in 2004, the 6th seeded 50-32 Memphis Grizzlies got swept in the first round by the Spurs (Best of 7)

it could be a minor error but when a large media corporation repeats a gross error like that (TNT has stated the same fact live), it kinda can make a big difference.

could be just an attempt to exaggerated reality to suck in more viewers, but I hope they fix this ASAP.

Tell me, am I right or am I just misreading it?

PS no disrespect to the Lakers amazing sweep!

The Lakers are responsible for 3 out of those 7 sweeps.

Yes and the Wolves had 58 that year while the Kings had 55 and Sonics had 52 a season later.

THE FIRST TO GET SWEPT IN A 7 GAMES SERIES!!!

You just listed 5 games series. Those teams lost 3-0, thats the 1st time ever a 50 win team is swept 4-0!

I know. Grizzlies got swept in 2004 4-0.

But 50 wins teams got swept in a 7 games series before anyways (Pistons in 2003)

Nuggets are the only 50 win 8th seed team so its not fair nor relevant statistic.

ESPN also said that Chris Paul was the first player since Nash since over a year to record over 200 assists that month. The error lied that Deron Williams actually had like 20 more assists than Paul.

that was actaully true. for a Gregorian calendar. not for a 30 day month.

Indy was a 60+ win team, now they're in the lotto.

Thanks, Ron Artest!
