The Suns are what they are at this point. There is little point to fire D'antoni unless they are going to breakup the team and go a whole new direction.

Mike doesn't deserve this. It is not 100% his fault. I still think that if Mike was to remain Head Coach, the Suns' window would not be slammed shut. The only problem D'Antoni had was defense. If they could just make a few adjustments to the roster..perhaps trade Diaw, Skinner, and may Barbosa (likely though) I think they could have another great chance and doing better. Now with Mike leaving I'm not so sure they'll do any better.

I don't see how it's on the coach. Suns players clearly choked away game 1 and game 5. Whatever coach blame, the team was in a position to win those games at the end. Clutch can't be coached. And the lack is absolutely fatal against the Spurs who are the epitome of clutch.

Even if D'antoni was all for getting Shaq, Kerr makes the ultimate decision. Quite honestly I am surprised D'Antoni would be for it considering his offensive theories. They would have been a lot better off keeping Kurt Thomas. He defended Duncan better than Shaq/Amare did this year but I guess Sarver didn't want to spend the money at the time.

Think of all the value they've given away for nothing..Iguodala, Rondo, Thomas. Tell me that is not a championship team with those 3+Marion.

And unfortunately for them, trading Nash or Shaq to rebuild around Amare likely won't net the pieces to do much.

Suns coach Mike D'Antoni has been granted permission to talk to the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks , the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

Citing a report by KTAR-AM 620 in Phoenix, it appears that Suns GM Steve Kerr has had a change of heart, after previously declining to allow D'Antoni to talk to other teams.

It definitely doesnt sound like they are trying to keep him if they are giving him permission to talk to other teams, thats just not a good sign if you want him to stay.

Unfortunately Kerr does not understand this concept. All the contracts we need off the books don't come off until after the 2010 season. WTF are we going to do with a new coach and virtually no roster maneuverability?

I love how in the NBA general managers almost never take any heat let alone get fired. The coach is the fall guy for everything, if players get hurt, coach gets canned, if players aren't good, coach gets canned. Because of this good coaches want nothing to do with the NBA. So you have teams like Boston with Doc Rivers who is at best one of the worst coaches in the nba, in college I doubt he could even get a job with a good school.
