Mike Woodson deserves an extension for taking them to the playoffs.

He took us to playoffs with 37 wins? If anything he tried his best to make us miss the playoffs.

Seriously. Replace him with an average coach and you have 40+ wins this year and aren't scrambling to make the playoffs down the stretch.

I look at Atlanta's roster. I see the freakish athleticism. I see the young players who are capable and willing to run the floor.

I then look at the NBA team rankings for pace, and see that the Hawks are 17th.

That, alone, is inexcusable. Knowing your personnel is just as important, if not moreso, than knowing the X's and O's.

EDIT: D'Antoni would be perfect for Atanta.

Good insight. Woodson has insisted this team rely on half court offense over the years - except when playing running teams like Golden State and Phoenix who he tries to run with. :banghead: It is amazing how Atlanta ran the ball so well against teams like that but he didn't even try to run teams that actively didn't want to run. Woodson's approach on offense was to take a young team and have them try to beat the other team at their own game. The fact that Woodson was trying to get them to push the pace this series was something of a breakthrough for him, only taking 4 years in the process. Huzzah.

So with Billy Knight resigning, does this mean woodson will stay? I remember earlier in the season, knight wanted woodson gone and even tried to fire him according to stephen a smith and other people, im not sure what this means.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

I think it depends on who is brought in as GM. If it is a guy who thinks Woodson should be gone, he will be gone.

I think he's gone. New GM probably = Mr. no winning seasons done.

But Atlanta has a weird ownership situation and a low season ticket/advertiser base so they might insist to the new GM that he stick around to save money, who knows.

The team won't save any money by keeping Woodson. He is no longer under contract with the team.

The issue is that ownership backed Woodson over Knight and seems to still think highly of him based on owner Michael Gearon Jr.'s comments today. We need some divine intervention in Atlanta.
