Obviously they wouldn't be better just by replacing Big Al with KG, but they would be much better off by trading Pierce earlier to go into full on rebuilding mode.

Realgm had an article a while back saying that Danny Ainge was considering trading Paul Pierce for a top pick that he would have used on Deron Williams. Throw in whatever Theo Ratliff would bring in as well as Jeff Green and you have a very nice young lineup.

PG. Deron Williams
SG. Gerald Green
SF. Jeff Green
PF. Al Jefferson
C. Pau Gasol?

Pretty damn solid, with an incredibly deep bench. If this was a good trade or not hinges on them winning a championship before they need to start rebuilding. Off course hindsight is 20/20, it probably wouldn't have played out exactly like this.

The Wolves were also missing their second best player for most of the season, they improved quite a bit once Randy Foye came back.

I don't think so - imo Jefferson is much worse on offense than KG. He is a better low post scorer (actually he is one of the best in the league), but that's about all Jefferson has going for him. He's a black hole which doesn't translate into making Allen more effective. He can't pass like KG or coach his teammates like KG. There really isn't any comparison of the two players.
