But, I still have an issue with drinking AND driving. -- How many drinks is too much? How does anyone know "FOR SURE" that one is alert enough to drive?

This is the key. If you are under the influence of alcohol, your ability to make such a decision is compromised. I would be willing to bet that a significant percentage of alcohol-related accidents are caused by people who think they are "OK to drive".

Lets be honest here.

Theres two scenarios.

A) He had only had a "few cups of wine" and thus was only very mildly intoxicated so it did not affect his state of mind and he could drive safely and smoothly ---- and that the cops just picked on him by stopping him.

B) He had more than a "few cups of wine" and was drunk enough that it was causing him to act recklessly on the road.

I suspect it was option B

If its a first or even second offense I advocate leniency. But when a guy keeps drinking and driving he needs a real punishment.

I dont know about you. But if im driving down the highway, I do not want some guy who has had one too many "cups of wine" speeding around me and tailgating me.

True, I never said I disowned or looked down upon others who decide to drink, never. That's there choice, as is mine, not to drink and I respect theirs as I expect them to do my decision, as well.

But, I still have an issue with drinking AND driving. -- How many drinks is too much? How does anyone know "FOR SURE" that one is alert enough to drive? -- There are too many unknowns which can lead to something worse. If you don't care about yourself, so be it. But, at least show some respect and care for the others on the road you are possibly endangering by drinking and driving.

Alcohol is quite manageable, and it's extremely easy to tell when you're okay to drive or not. There's a difference between actually feeling you're okay and just saying you are...

I still don't know how much DerMarr Johnson had to drink, nor do I know how he was driving or how he responded to being pulled over. If he was driving dangerously, I don't care if he'd had too many or none at all. It's easy to make spot judgments but we don't know what happened.

Am I the only one who thought it was hilarious that dflash3 agreed with you?

a-rod, you have actually left me in disbelief.
