There are pros and cons for both systems, however, baseball is a great example of a sport that has no payroll caps, and parody (simultaneously)

Without doing the leg work; I'm willing to bet there's been a larger variety of teams who've both won the world series, and have appeared in the world series -- over the last 10 years -- than teams who've appeared (and won) NBA championships -- in that same time period.

There's other ways of compensating small market teams without capping all teams payrolls, which ultimately takes money away from superstars who are responsible for driving their teams revenues and profits.

When one team only has $30 million to work with, and another has $90 million to work with, yet the smaller market team with $30 million is winning, it makes for great discussion/entertainment. It's what business books are written about. Baseball has an entire sub-niche of fans who focus only on team markets, and general managers who succeed in them. This can never happen in a league where every GM is allocated the same amount of payroll.

When Kobe is drawing 40,000 fans to arenas every night, and driving the sales of team merchandise, how in the world do you figure his market value would only be $10.00 / hour? The NBA is a multi billion dollar industry, and the players are heavily responsible for it's economic success. Why should they only get $20 million of the pie when they deserve twice, three times, or even 4 times that much?

Its the new NBA. Everyones over paid.

All players are underpaid. As much as these owners make off of merchandising, ticket sales, etc., they should be getting a bigger chunk.

This is the state of modern day political discourse.
