Sroek wrote:"It's a business" is the most (Please Use More Appropriate Word) cop-out excuse I've ever heard.

If the NBA truly wanted to maximize profits, they wouldn't risk damaging external relations, sponsorships, viewership, etc. by rigging games. The NBA is an international brand, not an underground organization. I can tell most of you have never run a successful business before.

ur making to much sense. You need to realize that with the money comes the power and many things that should be, are not brought to light, and can go on for a long time until someone/something happens or slips up. Is it possible this is happening? Yes. Is it happening? Who knows. Nothing is cetain, but to assume that those types of actions do not happen is thinking far to rationally. Unethical behaviors happen often in business, and a short-term view of profits is often at the forefront.

i'm not argueing either way, just that much of what happens in the world today is based on money/business, so to use that and say, no way is that a relavant statement, is in itself completely useless. This situation is not seperate from today's society as a whole.

the irony is that if they left the sport alone I think it would be more popular. Imagine the kings really beating the lakers... nevermind, I would have been so depressed I would never have watched the final.

Jason Terry, Eddie Johnson (former player) commented that there was no rigging. Ex ref commented on LA radio monday after game 2 and said there was no rigging to his knowledge. Basically as critical as I have been regarding the refs, this thread is cherrypicking the quotes for a referee scandal.

you guys can't quote ANYBODY that's still involved in the NBA or has aspirations of being involved in the NBA in the future as a coach, GM, or whatever..it's going to be VERY difficult to find a good quote from somebody..it would have to be anonymous, or somebody that's already overseas or something..

The Olympics is a business, the World Cup is a business. Does that mean that the competitive integrity of those organizations must be compromised for the sake making more money?

Regardless of the fact that corrupt officials exist, people are entertained by watching world-class players compete. People just want to see the two of the best teams compete. If the NBA has to CHOOSE who those teams were, then we wouldn't be seeing the highest level of the competition possible for the people's entertainment.

This entire conspiracy theory is just contradicts itself.

Where is Rasheed's quote when he said it was all rigged? I can't remember what he said.

I 100% agree with anyone that says a concrete definition of the rules needs to be written and enforced.

I'm all for officials being under more scrutiny. I want Playoff games called with the consistency of regular season games.

I want calls in the first quarter to be consistent with calls in the 4th.

I want calls against rookies to be consistent with calls against vets.

I want calls against scrubs to be consistent with calls against superstars.

This is much different than suggesting "the NBA is rigged".

if there was really 'fixing' going on wouldnt it only be known to some officials at the league office? the whole thing about 'fixing' is to let as less people to know as possible....so then when players/coaches or whoever say they dont believe rigging is going on, maybe they really are telling the truth

who knows tho

i do know stern must be stopped

wait did you just mention the Olympics & World cups a positive example ?
The IOC has compromised its integrity for the sake of making money and same can be said about FIFA.

and the world-class basketball players are what keeps me watching the NBA despite what I've seen from the poor officiating and the league mandates watering down the game I love. When the NBA learns that fans can admire/respect these great athletes skills without the leagues synthetic reinforcement it will go a long way to making this league great again.

Don't some refs get canned each season? Don't some of them become disgruntled?

WHY then would only the one with mob connections make such a damning allegation?

Ray Allen whines too much. I love how he thought the Bucks would beat the Lakers.

Same here, I don't understand why it's so difficult for refs to operate under this exact doctrine.
