Simply put, What team would Ron Artest help out more?

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Mon Jul 14, 2008 4:18 pm

Considering now that it seems that Ron Artest would like to be traded, which team would benefit the most and improve the most from
his services?

Simply put, What team would Ron Artest help out more?

NOTE: I am going to list teams that are potential contenders/52+ win teams?

Now in order to make this as fair as possible, I just replaced either the teams 3rd best player and included them in a deal for Ron Artest or he position that he plays with someone else.

Orlando trades Hedo and Redick to the Kings for Ron Artest
PG Nelson
SG Pietrus
SF Ron Artest in place of Hedo
PF Lewis
C Dwight

Dallas trades Josh Howard for Ron Artest

PG Kidd
SG Stackhouse
SF Ron Artest in place of Josh Howard
PF Dirk
C Diop/Dampier

Really don't see the Spurs trading any of their big 3 for Artest.

San Antonio Trades Bowen, Finley and pick for Ron Artest
PG Parker
SG Giniboli
SF Ron Artest in place of Bowen and Finley
PF Duncan
C Thomas

New Orleans Trade Peja for Ron Artest
PG Paul
SG Mo Pete
SF Ron Artest in place of Peja
PF West
C Chandler

Houston trades Battier, Francis and Brooks for Ron Artest
PG Rafer
SG T-mac
SF Ron Artest in place of Battier
PF Scola
C Yao

LA Lakers trade Lamar Odom for Ron Artest
PG Fisher
SG Kobe
SF Ron Artest in place of Lamar Odom
PF Gasol
C Bynum

Once again, in this case I don't see Phoenix trading Nash, Amare or Shaq. Maybe they trade Diaw and possibly Barbosa for Artest

Phoenix trades Boris Diaw for Ron Artest
PG Nash
SG Bell
SF Ron Artest in place of Boris Diaw
PF Amare
C Shaq

Utah trades AK-47 for Ron Artest
PG Deron
SG Brewer
SF Ron Artest
PF Boozer
C Okur

Detroit trades Tayshaun Prince for Ron Artest
PG Billups
SG Hamilton
SF Ron Artest in place of Tayshaun Prince
PF Wallace
C McDyess

Others include teams like:

Philadelphia Trades Iggy for Ron Artest
PG Andre Miller
SG Young
SF Ron Artest in place of Iggy
PF Brand
C Dalembert

Toronto trades Bargnani and Jamario Moon for Ron Artest
PG Calderon
SG Parker
SF Ron Artest in place of Bargnani and Jamario Moon
PF Bosh
C JO

Denver Trades Kleiza and JR Smith for Ron Artest
PG Iverson
SG Melo
SF Ron Artest
PF Nene
C Camby

NOTE 1: Not sure how close any of these deals would be to happening, but tried to make it fair for all parties to see which teams would actually go for his services

NOTE2: Make a case for why you think Ron Artest would help a certain team on this list.

San Quentin, of the California Penal League.

Sorry; it had to be done.

(serious answer: East-Orlando, West-Lakers)

Lakers Definitely. They need that one guy who can shut down a star such as Gilbert Arenas. They dont have that man now. KObe is a good defender, but Artest is a great defender.

Some thoughts:

Olando: Better with Turk
Houston: Not much improvement if any over Battier considering Artests mental issues
Dallas: Mavs have put out crazier linups, but none succeed
Lakers: Good fit, but also a chance Artest kills Kobe in the locker room after Kobe berates him for forcing up a shot when he should have passed to the Mamba
Detroit: Are you kidding me?
Toronto: Worth the risk, but reuniting JO and Artest may not be a good idea.
Philly: Iggy for Artest would never happen.
Utah: Think he's crazy now?
New Orleans: Peja for Artest again? That would be interesting.
Phoenix: This one actually makes sense.

I must say out of al the teams that were listed it would have to be the Lakers, but not if Odom is moved for Artest. I would rather stand pat if it came down to Odom for Artest and Thomas.

I sort of like the idea of Artest on the Hornets. Peja is a great shooter, but he's too much of a liability on defense. The Hornets still need a better 2 than Mopete. He's too streaky and would make a much better 6th man.

If SA only had to give up Bowen and a pick they'd love it

I feel they'd give up Ginobli to get Artest

Not sure how many are saying the Lakers here. I mean if they got to the finals without him, then how is he helping them more?

I think of Artest helping a team that needs it. Teams that lack scoring and that have trouble defending the perimeter.

Houston has trouble scoring, New Orleans and Utah has trouble defending the perimter.

He would give PHX some toughness. They are going to have to address how much softness and, more importantly, age that they have on the roster. Their entire starting line-up will be over 30 next year except Amare (unless Hill comes off the bench). Some of these guys are way past 30 (Shaq, Nash, Hill)

Spurs, definitely. Fan association doesn't have any relevance there, either, he just would.

But they could only get him through 3-way trade. Doubtful they'd give up Ginobili.

-----------

New Orleans would definitely give up Julian Wright for Artest, not Peja going back to the Kings, with that contract and decrased ability and team situation of the Kings. They would have to give up Wright. Peja just wouldn't make sense for Sac. Yeah, little youth outside of Paul/West, but you have to give to get. Besides trading Peja makes the Hornets a generally below-average shooting team.

I think that's one of the better deals out there for the Kings.

He could have helped out the Warriors if they still had Baron Davis, but nevermind now.

Golden State won 48 games last season without even playing their bench and they didn't even have an inside presence either.

PG: Baron Davis
SG: Monta Ellis
SF: Stephen Jackson
PF: Ron Artest
C: Andris Biedrins

6: Kelenna Azubuike
7: Al Harrington

That's 56+ wins if they play the bench and if Stephen Jackson doesn't get suspended for the first 7 games of the seasons. But this is basically irrelevant since Baron is gone, so I would have to say pick the Lakers or San Antonio instead.

I'd love to know how the Suns can trade Diaw for Artest but the Mavs would need to give up Howard, the Lakers-Odom, Pistons-Prince, sixers-iggy, etc...
Im pretty freakin awesome........

I think Toronto.

A lot of the other teams Artest is basically replacing another decent player. Hedo, Battier, Prince, Iggy, Odom, etc... All those guys are legitamite starters in the league and solid to very good players. On the Raptors he's replacing Jamario Moon which is a much larger gap between him and Artest, then the other options, and Artest.

Raptors would basically have the same back court production as the last couple years. (Ford/Calderon were redundent, Calderon can put up 20+ PER himself). But make a gue jump in the frontcourt going from having a bad rebounding/defensive/medicore offensive frontcourt of Moon/Bosh/Bargnani to having possibly the best rebounding/defensive/offensive frontcourt combonation in the league with Artest/Bosh/O'neil.

Peja for Artest, that sounds like a good deal. That sounds like an NBA trade that could actually happen.

Would it be the first time two players were traded for each other twice?
