The New Memphis Grizzlies

Post#1 » by Anticon » Wed Jul 16, 2008 3:53 am

The Grizzlies were easily the most hopeless team in the league before the draft this year. No star, no fan support, and an owner who wanted to sell the team.

I have to say I'm really impressed with their lineup post draft. The young players they have are impressive:

PG: Conley/Lowry
SG: Mayo
SF: Gay
PF: Arthur/Warrick
C: Darko

If only a few of these guys work out, they're going to have a solid young core.

Mayo should finally be the guy they need to excite the fans. I know if I lived there I'd be buying tickets for sure.

I never thought I'd say this, but the Grizzlies have a bright future!

marc gasol is probably going to be their starting center for the foreseeable future and javaris is a much a part of their young core as lowry.

EDIT: The New and Improved Memphis Grizzlies!

Yes, Amen. You definitely cant forget Marc Gasol. He was rated #4 rookie by ESPN. I will definitely go to at least 10 more Grizzlies games this year than I did last year.

Yes absolutely. A very good young core in Conley/Gay/Mayo. That is a dangerous team in the future and if they can be in those 2010 sweepstakes to acquire a PF like Chris Bosh (hopefully not) and develop Marc Gasol in to a 10/8/2 guy watch out Portland there is another team with a bright future.

I wouldn't forget Javaris Crittenton...he's got a bright future, and if he doesn't fit with Memphis he's still a great trade asset to have.

Yeah, and a lot of things have to go right for it to work out like that.

People always bring up how unproven Oden and the Blazers are, yet the Grizzlies are even more unproven. Three of their projected starters have yet to play an NBA game, and Conley still has to prove that he is the level of PG he was hyped to be. It works both ways.

But nonetheless, they have a very talented young core, and could be dangerous if they all pan out and they continue to get some solid pieces around them.

A Blazer fan feeling a tinge of jealousy?

We'll see how good they end up. Personally, I think Conley is gonna be mediocre, but Gay looks good and there's no reason to think Mayo wont as well.

Jealousy of what? I was speaking truths.

Why don't you go back to your brainless bashing of random cities. That was sure a joy to read.

Gasol and Crittenton I haven't seen play, so I didn't comment on them. But that's an even more impressive list then. Mayo is really the key here. I can't believe anyone would criticize them for taking back Jaric and trading Mike Miller. Who cares about Jaric and Miller. You traded Kevin Love for a guy who is determined, classy, and could easily become an all-star.

I think I might try to get tickets for when the Grizzlies come to Toronto just to see Mayo.

Honestly, I feel if Mayo works out this year and is a top candidate for ROY Wallace will deserve EOY. He played the draft well and re-built his team in the process.

I don't think they looked hopeless before the draft. I think their best players going forward are Gay and Gasol. They had a pretty good draft, but really they've been building this for a while. I just hope Mayo doesn't get all the credit when they're a top team in a few years.
