Re: Posey to the Hornets
Some people overrate Posey. I constantly hear about how Rondo benefits because of the big 3, but very little is said of Posey. It's amazing how many wide open 3-pointers he shot this year. Even his clutch shooting was mostly open 3's. His defense on Lebron was completely average, and I think Pierce played much better defense against Lebron than Posey did. His overall defense otherwise will be hard to replace, but his offensive game won't be. I'll have to see who they can replace him with to have much say. At least Doc won't resort to the small ball anymore. People will only focus on the games it won Boston, but not on the ones that they lost. Garnett is not a 5 and Posey is not a 4. I'd play Perkins for around 30, Garnett for 35, and the combination of Big Baby, Powe, and O'Bryant could get around 8-12 minutes each. Big Baby was put on the bench a lot even when he was playing very well like at the end of the season, so I hope he sees a lot of minutes this season.

I didn't realize clutch 3-point shooting and defense were such readily available NBA commodities.

Good. I like his signing a lot more there.

Re: Posey to the Hornets
Last year everyone talked about the C's having no bench and like I predicted everyone is on their roleplayers nuts now. Good teams make roleplayers look good. I was happy when they signed Posey and I'll miss him, but there is a lot of overreaction going on.

Most NBA players don't get the benefit of being completely wide open for 3's like Posey did. A player like Pierce hitting shots with 2 players on him is much more difficult than a player like Posey hitting a wide open 3, so you have to look at this realistically. His defense certainly helps, but it didn't help at all vs. Lebron and they have to see Cleveland as being one of their key opponents. It may hurt the team, but I can see a player like Azibuke offering most of what Posey did.

Re: Posey to the Hornets
Posey couldn't stay in front of guys like LeBron or Kobe, he's not a shutdown star defender. But he is the best for what he is.
If he was a star shut down defender he wouldn't be settling for 4 mil for the next 4 years. He'd be in GS for 10 mil.
Posey is worth 5 points in any given playoff game that a regular roleplayer wouldn't give you.
I honestly don't recall one, ONE, crucial shot that he got in wich he didn't hit during the playoffs. Robert Horry is known for making game winners. Last year Posey made all the shots not the winners (he didn't have the op for winners though since we have Pierce and Ray Allen for that).
He's a little slow to guard 2s or really good 3s. Essentially he's perfect to guard 3/4 type SFs but he'll do everything right in attempt to make up for whatever he may lack in speed if his opponent has more. Even though against star guards that doesn't mean ****.
Posey's worth to NO >>>> worth to BOS now that BOS has won a title.
He will teach NO about winning and mental toughness IF they are open to learning and give them confidence knowing he will knock down ever big shot given. The Big 3 were open to learning and desperately seeked out everything about Posey's experience and refrenced it.
Now the entire BOS starting lineup has that experience and with Pierce,Allen,Garnett we don't need any more leaders. NO on the other hand, if the let Posey be a leader could learn a thing or two about poise and winning every posession.
Posey for what he is, is probuly the best roleplayer in the league.
BOS will have an intresting off-season and could still end up a better team then last year depending on if they get some championship signings (say split MLE between Kristic and Pargo.. just given an example not a predicition)

Posey is basically a younger Bruce Bowen with better offense... I still don't trust Posey with creating shots for himself but for the most part he knows his role and plays it well.

Horrible comparison. They don't have much in common. They are completely different defenders. Bruce runs after people through screens and is well conditioned enough to guard anyone one on one and make it a living hell for them. Posey is a bigger guy who relys more on his long arms and has to study his opponent more. Posey wasn't the one who made Kobe play sub par in the finals, it was the Celtics team defense. Sure he was guarding Kobe one on one a great deal of the time but it was the Celtics team defense that made him play like he did. Kobe did absolutely own the Spurs the series before and there is no real explanation for that. Kobe was just a freak in that series.

Nope not at all- Posey has always been much slower on defense- noticeably so this year; so in that way he's not all like a young Bowen.
Even now, I'd say Bowen is definitely quicker laterally compared to Posey. When Posey faces quicker players, such as Lebron, Kobe, Johnson, Ginobili, etc. he gets beat pretty easily- which is why Pierce was guarding these players for the most part at the ends of games (Lebron and Kobe), and even Allen (he guarded Johnson towards the ends of games).
Posey has never been the elite defender Bowen is- he's slower, but is a bigger, stronger player whose biggest strength is his high amount of hustle on defense (drawing charges), and his ability to guard the 3 and smaller 4s.
Posey does have slightly better offense in that he uses the pump fake once in a while, and then drives, but other than that (which he doesn't do all that often) he and Bowen were pretty equal offensively this year.
But, no, a younger Bowen could guard 2s and even 1s very well, where as Posey has trouble guarding shooting guards- he's never been as agile as Bowen and he's started to lose a step defensively this year, at least in terms of quickness.
Damn

Posey definitely is an above-average role-player, and definitely does a lot more than just make big three point shots. Pay better attention to him when you can, find out more about his game, and how he impacts the game.
If you don't care to or don't want to buy into it, then you're just being ignorant to his make-up as a player.
However Posey's impact won't be as much as with Boston and Miami, though, because New Orleans are not near the offensive team in ability that Miami and Boston were.

James Posey is not an SG. If anything, for spurts.

He's much much much better at guarding the two than Peja and Mo-Pete, and we were elite defensively with them :-/

Re: Posey to the Hornets
Posey is more 3-4 than 2-3. He really is a mediocre perimeter defensive player, especially against 2's and quick 3's. Boston's help and interior defense is tremendous though and it covers up some of the players difficulties in defending on the perimeter, such as with Eddie House, Ray Allen, and James Posey. If New Orleans can replicate a lot of that help/interior D they MAY be able to get away with Posey at the 2 but IMO it's more likely that James will be a lot less effective guarding quicker players.

Re: Posey to the Hornets
He was at his best when he played the 4 and the Celtics went small. Most of you are missing how much he gives a club in the locker room. Younguns listen to him, because he has a pair of rings. On the court, everyone knows he has their back. If an opponent tries to show up a team after the whistle blows, he will level them.
Its a loss for the Celtics, but they have other guys already in that role (KG, etc). On the other hand, its a huge get for NO, who doesn't have that kind of player on the roster. I'm also guessing that NO was in a better position to sign him financially, since they don't have three supermax contracts like the Celtics.
