That Jerry Buss have lots of money? :D
Seriously though, we can't afford to lose another important bench player. I mean who else can we trust? Vlad Rad? Luke the Puke? Koby Karl? Or sign Smush again? He's basically coming off a career year and he improves every year since he entered the league. He gets the money that he deserves.
Turiaf gets 4M/year, Sasha gets 5M/year; I think it sounds fair.

Yeah we have to pay the luxury tax, But if Buss is willing to, I don't see where the problem is considering we already have our roster set (except may be 1 big to fill the role of Turiaf).

5 Mil is about what I expected him to get because Mitch is pretty fond of overpaying our role players (Luke, George etc.). Mitch is obviously improving as a GM though... only 3 years is an excellent move on the part of the Lakers. I have a feeling it's going to bite them in the ass though. Ginobili didn't come into the NBA until he was 25 and Sasha is only 24 right now. By the time Sasha's contract is up he'll be in his prime and probably wanting a much bigger contract.

I have this gut feeling that Sasha is going to turn into a Manu-lite in the next few years. He's got defensive intensity (which 99% of players lack), ridiculous shooting ability, and loves to fire under pressure. Unlike other sharp shooting role players (Eddie House, Kapono etc.) he's not a defensive liability. A somewhat (late blooming) special player IMO.

I am so glad we got this out of the way. $5 million is more than I thought we would/should give him but with the Euroleague threat and already losing one of our bench players, this was well worth it.

Look at the players that have gotten in the $4M range this season. Vujacic is better than all of them. He's a better player than Udrih who got the full MLE.

Who cares if Buss pays the luxury tax? It's his money and with the cost of Lakers tickets he can afford it.

Get a job at the LA times since you seem to be better informed than them.

He's getting paid less than Posey and for 1 less year. Sounds about right.

I like this signing. This guy has potentials, not shy to take the last shot, and he is young.

5 mil per Sasha is not that bad. Mickael Pietrus is making more and he isn't as good. James Jones I think signed for about 4. 3 year contract is pretty short. If they ever have to trade him I think they will have takers with a short deal.

Five million is a reasonable amount for Sasha, who will log more minutes at SG than people realize. At the end of games this season, Kobe slid to the SF slot, and Sasha ran the two. Next season, even with Odom on the team, I see Bynum, Gasol, Bryant, Sasha, and Fisher out there when the game is on the line.

Here is how I think L.A. is going to distribute minutes (for the most part)

C - Bynum, (Gasol), Mihm
PF - Gasol, (Odom), Vlad
SF - Odom, Ariza, (Bryant), Walton
SG - Bryant, Vujacic, Ariza
PG - Fisher, Farmar, (Vujacic)
