that is so old. it was a good game against Raps making any PO series very interesting giving that last PO series went to game 7

Oh yeah, and Miami won at the last second against this injured and deleted roster.

But cool.

Guess that's a statement win.

What excuses lol. Our records speak for itself.

Have fun being first round fodder.

Have fun winning ONE championship. Heck winning an ECF. Maybe even the “2nd round”.

Uh oh, Heat vs. Raptors yesterday may end up getting this thread locked based on these last few comments (which is fine at this point IMO, since the statement has been made).

What happened to the Heat? Well, in three seasons, we lost Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade, all without pick compensation. In fact, we just finished (in 2016) paying for our Big-3 with draft picks. When we traded for Dragic, we still had two of those guys, but the same day we traded for Dragic, we learned about Bosh's blood clots. And the summer after we lost Wade to the Bulls. smh. I don't think any franchise can survive such a downfall.

Still, we scraped together a team, a scrappy team, and we have young pieces in place like Richardson, Bam, Winslow, TJ, Waiters. I think it's a great place to land if you're a young player trying to get into the league. Also, we owe only one pick after this season, so it's not as bad as it looks.

I'll tell you one thing: The games are fun to watch. The Heat are wild entertainment and a huge part of the Miami culture. A game at AAA is so much fun. The effort of the players is extraordinary. And, as much as Spo's choices leave me flustered, there is no argument that he is gifted.

I don't think we're a contender, but if we make it to the postseason (not a foregone conclusion--an injury to Dragic will crush us, for example), we'll be a tough out.

Next season we have a pick too. Let's hope for the best!

:-)

It's the 2015 Blazers effect. Have a scrappy young team that's thrown together on the fly and takes the league by surprise. A year later, other teams have had a chance to build a thorough scouting report on them and all the things that caught other teams off-guard aren't new anymore and the rest of the league catches up quickly.

Those scrappy underdogs are good stories for a year, but they have a really short shelf-life in the minds of NBA fans.

I still admire the 2015 Blazers. Great to watch. Didn't tank when everyone told them to do it.

Same with last years Heat. Unfortunately, both teams share the same DNA of those scrappy underdogs, but they generally have pretty middle-of-the-road potential because of why I listed. The players they built around are solid players, but none are superstars and generally all of them were fairly unknown to scouts around the league since they didn't get a ton of playing time in previous seasons. Once they did and other teams get wind of it.... that kinda caps the teams potential fairly fast and they never take that "next step".

Also unfortunately for teams like the Blazers and Heat, they're such a good story that ownership and management buy into the hype and resign the core to big contracts. Blazers in particular where in a tough spot because nearly every guy they brought in for that surprising year was expiring at the same time. Miami had a kinda similar situation and pushed their chips in on the underdog. It's easy to want to root for that, but the reality of the NBA is that that gamble doesn't really pay off very often.

was thoroughly surprised at adebayo. he was so tough defensively but also squashed us downlow on offense.

not a huge fan of the makeup of this team but all the credit to spoelstra for taking a bunch of scrap players and having them play above their potential.

I really don't see it as a problem as long as we make the playoffs. We're not going to win a championship. The Cavs and Warriors are too good at the moment and Boston and the Rockets are waiting in line. By the time we pay off our debts, we'll have rebuilt around our younger players who will have playoff experience already.

A few years from now we'll have cap space and be able to pursue free agents. Miami is a great city and excellent place to play. Players know this.

not a huge fan of the makeup of this team but all the credit to spoelstra for taking a bunch of scrap players and having them play above their potential.

I like Anunoby and Mitchell a lot too. Last draft was very good. Great for everyone.

Meanwhile, the team does a stealth rebuild in place and the fans are entertained. As I stated before, a game at AAA is a thrilling experience. I've seen us when we suck too. What we cannot stand is a pathetic effort. Players are expected to play to win. That doesn't work with a culture that accepts tanking.

We had enough losing last season. If we make it to the postseason, maybe we'll have a spoiler role. I'd like that.

Injuries don't help them, but last year gave their best in the second part of season. Maybe a coach choice is to focus all energies on the second part of the season

This has actually been my argument to Blazer fans upset by the current situation the team finds themselves in financially. It's causing a real apathy for fans, but I've been telling Portland fans that it's league wide because of how little parity there is in the NBA right now. Blazers and Heat are in this huge swath of "good-ish" teams that the league is filled with. Might as well just ride it out. All the cap space in the world isn't gonna get 90% of the teams in the league to compete with the likes of the Warriors or Cavs, so like... whatever /shrug. Sure money could be spent better, but even in the best case scenario, if you hit every pick and FA signing out of the park, can you compete with the current Warriors? No.

Oddly enough, I think the Heat and Blazers may make decent trade partners this season since they have similar issues and probably will have trouble finding takes for their expensive/underpreforming players. If they're gonna be stuck with expensive players, might as well shuffle them around and see if a new team may open things up for some of the guys like Turner, Leonard, T. Johnson and J. Johnson (not suggesting a trade of those guys, just giving examples of types of players).

I like the Heat. They have some good players that seem to gel well together. They can also be tough defensively which is what they need in the playoffs.
