How much is Chris Paul overpaid by?

Post#1 » by spikeslovechild » Sun Jul 14, 2019 11:59 pm

Basically if he were a free agent at the start of free agency assuming every team was on the table (not ring chase) how much would he get and for what term.

Right now he has basically has 3/124 remaining. For a 41 million AAV. What would he get on the open market? 12, 24, or 30 million? What would the term be? Al Horford got 4/97 that could go to 4/109 would he get more or less?

Take off a year and reduce the contract by 10 million per season

You can vote for two items by the way, so 13-24 mil for 2 year term.

1 more year at $25M would be just about perfectly reasonable
So overpaid by 13-24 mil and 2 extra years

I don't understand why everyone is **** ing on Chris and the Rockets for that contract.

How can anyone expect the union president of the NBA Players Association to take a pay cut? That's setting a terrible precedent and undermines the entire reason as to why the union exists in the first place. Do a lot of you not understand how unions work?

Its a **** contract yes, but Chris was entitled to it per the criteria outlined within CBA and I wouldn't expect a player in his position to take anything less.

Nobody can see the future, so it's not a good idea to play the hindsight game.

At the point of signing his contract, based on his 17-18 performance, I say 4/100 would be a fair price, or 4/120 but with a team option on 4th year (basically a 3/90 considering his age).

Right now, I say he is worth 2/40, then 1 year deals for the rest of his career. If he wants to win, he has to join a contender, and a contender throwing 40M per year on him would be like a suicide move.

4yr/120mil sounds about right, thats fair for both sides. Right now, it's heavily favored for CP3.

Seems like Ferttita should have thought about that before trading for him.

Not overpaid at all

Would suck to see Jimmy Butler with no help this season. If Pat Riley knows anything about basketball he needs to do anything he can to get him before we send him elsewhere.

I think people are mad that he helped negotiate the supermax and used it to his own benefit. But honestly I think people have to look in the mirror and say they would do otherwise? We're talking $350M

Unions exist to maximise the benefit of the majority of members, not just line the pockets of those in charge. Chris Paul has impacted other players and reduced his team's chances of winning by pushing for a max contract for himself. His actions are the exact opposite of what the union is supposed to be there for.

2/40-50

Almost every team wouldnt give up the 2021 FA for signing Paul to a longer deal and prefer to overpsy him over two years

MLE type player given his best role is that of a mid tier ring chaser. In a vacuum he’s worth more and he’d get more on the open market but it would end up being a lose/lose situation for him and the team that signed him.

The problem isn't so much the $$ amount, its the years. Like if he had a 2/70M left then it would be fine, but its 3/125M... He's gonna be making $44M in the last year of his deal at 36 years old.
