Keldon Johnson finished his first season mostly in Austin developing and will get more minutes in SA this season; Jakob re-signed and in discussions before he did he talked with FO about a bigger upcoming role; DeMar's contract is up at the end of this season. That you pick this particular time to 'drive by' and make any sort of judgement is irrelevant to the timelines continuing to unfold and the benefits that will come from them.

Timelines for judging this are always subjective. What's a good time to revisit for you? Another 2 years? 5 years? 10 years?

It was literally just laid out. I don't know how to be more clear. Drive by again whenever you want. Or don't. Whatever. We're doing things according to plan either way.

My man, you said a lot, but little in the way of "laying out" the timeline. I guess we'll have to wait until the Spurs get real good again so you can revisit at that time

All good. I mean, you gotta remember the first post I posted was that the Lakers and Spurs are not a rival. Then the guy accused me of being a bandwagon fan with a crappy take (I forget his exact words...not important), so of course I decided to troll. As a Laker fan, its really easy to troll by taking the 'arrogant' route. It's doubly so for Spurs fans. Spurs fans have this 'lack of credit' complex. Start talking to them about the past 20 years, and they ALL throw out the same stats about #of playoff appearances, and this/that and the other thing. It's like there is a website on how to argue with Laker fans somewhere. I don't know where this need comes from, but they go nuts when they feel slighted by Laker fans....which is incredibly easy to do.They put alot of words in your mouth...like the dope who trying to argue with me about "all I care about is beating Celtics" ...blah blah blah. Never said that.

I said (and I'm gonna say it for like the 10th time now) ....there is no rivalry (especially not heated rivalry) with the Spurs. There is really no team in the West that is the Lakers rival. You can take that as arrogant, or not. I don't care. What I'm saying is that when the Lakers play the Celtics in the finals...it's extra special. We're catching up, and catching up with # of titles. Been playing catch up for a long time. The loss in 08 was doubly-hard, as it was a loss....AND a win for them. Having them tromp the everloving snot out of us by 39 points didn't help. But it did rekindle that hate quite nicely.

Put it another way: Have 100 Laker fans describe their ultimate playoff run to the 18th title. You will prob get alot people say that they want to beat the Clippers. Even though we've never played the Clippers in the playoffs (and therefore certainly not a rival) there is alot of cross-town smack talk these last 10 years....even though the clips continue to do nothing. It would be nice to finally play them / shut them up....and then move on. But then after that, your gonna get a variety of who Laker fans want to beat. Some folks hate Utah. Portland is one. Some fans would pick the Spurs. Some would like to stick it to Cuban and Dallas (That would be a pick for me....even though I actually LIKE Cuban. It would be fun to sweep them, and watch him fume). Point is, your not gonna see a unifying "rival". But then you get to the finals.....and what better way to top off a title than to beat the Celtics??? It would be almost universal. Spurs fans can't seem to grasp this. As a Laker fan, I am acutely aware that most west teams would certainly have ripping the Lakers as part of their 'perfect run'. I know you'd have 90+% Spurs fans taking the Lakers. But your just not gonna see that the other way. Sorry. Laker fans don't see the Spurs as a rival that they get some sort of extra pleasure out of playing/beating. It just isn't there. At least not in huge numbers.

Spurs fans can scream and cry and throw stats at me, and tell me I'm arrogant, and the Spurs aren't a fly on the wall, and all sorts of other things that I never said. Still doesn't change the fact that the Spurs and Lakers are not a rivaly even slightly...and if Pop took a worse deal just to spite the Lakers, then he is a fool. <------- my original point all along.

DoctorX wrote:  Ok so the only team you enjoy beating is the Celtics. Yeah I consider the Lakers a heated rival just like you consider the Celtics a heated rival. In your lifetime going by what you said the Lakers have only played the Celtics 5 times The Spurs have played the Lakers in my lifetime 8 times so yes I consider them a heated rival.

Also bragging about the Lakers ability to retool and go on title runs is like a rich kid bragging about his inheritance. There is nothing amazing in stealing superstars. I will say the current Lakers title team is unique because it's the first one where both stars were out right stolen in AD/Lebron. You guys didn't even draft either so quite the achievement here.

I know you want me to care....but I don't. I like the Spurs, and I think they are a fine team. Did I ever say I only enjoy beating the Celtics?? I don't think I did. You might have enjoyed everytime you trounced the Lakers during the last decade. They were dark times for the Lakers....and I am quite sure alot of NBA fans enjoyed it thoroughly. And I get it.

I for one loved it when our young guys were a thorn in GS's side...even though they were a total powerhouse. But last year when GS was wretched....I never "enjoyed" the victory (not even sure if we did win). You guys are the same thing. I can't even tell you if we won / lost against the Spurs last season. It's really not an arrogance thing.....your just truly another game to me. There's absolutely zero "take that b*tches" when we beat you guys.

And I promise you....you got guys in LA who hate the Spurs. I'm not the biggest Pop fan. But you have guys that hate the Suns, hate the Jazz, hate Cuban (Sorry Dallas...but you know your owner is bigger than the team, right??) Alot of guys like to get wins up at the rose garden (always been a tough W for us). The closest thing we have to a 'universal enemy' is big-mouth Clipper fans. So annoying. But thats just based on shutting your loud bratty little brother up, than anything else.

Also...I'm sure the answer is gonna be more of your bitterness, but I just gotta ask: Stole Lebron?? How so? I'll play along with us "stealing AD" ....but Lebron?

I'm curious...as a Raptors fan: A) Are you from / in T-town? B) Whats your ultimate playoff run to a title?

Me: Clippers first round. Shut them up, and no credit for a first round exit. Right where they belong.
Prob Dallas 2nd round. Like I said before....always nice to see Cuban fume. Like the Dallas squad, and I like Cuban in the NBA. No major beef there...but I gotta pick someone, so they are it. It's mainly based on stickin it to Cuban.
WCF....I'd prob go Jazz. I have always liked the Jazz. Dug Stockton and Malone, and I really liked Millsap and the PG. Totally drawing a blank on his name right now, but I liked that squad. I think Gobert is awesome. Just always been a Jazz fan, and so it's an honor to play them, and if we lost....good for them.
And then of course the Goombas out East.
Honorable mention: I like Denver, so I'd put them in the "honor to play" category. Out east, I guess I would take Detroit. Always hated the bad-boys back in the 80's....and there would be the, ever so slight, satisfaction in repaying them for 04. I have nothing but respect for that 04 team, and what they did....but again, I'm trying to think of a 2nd team out east that would maybe mean something.

You?

The Spurs are reportedly asking for Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Kyle Kuzma, two first-round picks and two pick swaps in exchange for Kawhi Leonard https://t.co/H1UuRTNDQX https://t.co/GJSkWrNNY4

How far apart were the Spurs and Lakers?

I know at the time I thought if Luol Deng was the only holdup then SAS should take him and do it but folks were deathly against it on here.
(They should've asked for Ball too imo)

Even eating Deng's salary this was a far better package than what they actually got from Toronto. If they passed that up that was clearly a blunder for SAS's FO.
