You mean other than him being the most influential coach on modern NBA basketball?

D'Antoni was coaching long before the league became a 3pt shooting league. You're right though. Everyone wanted to copy the coach who's never won a championship lol.

he's a successful coach. rings aren't everything. his rockets were a cp3 hammy away from a championship. sometimes things just don't go your way, it didn't take away from his ability

Yes, this is why I said he was "the most influential coach on modern NBA basketball". You wouldn't say that about someone who just showed up. D'Antoni's been coaching this way since he was back in Europe, and if the other coaches in the NBA were smart, we've have been in the pace & space era decades ago.

Re: copy a coach that never won a championship lol. Is it not clear to you the way D'Antoni's techniques have made offenses much, much more effective than NBA offenses used to be? Forget about the rings for a second, do you understand how we got here?

I would say the lack of dominant centers has just as much to do with todays NBA as anything else. It's a lot easier to find a Mehmet Okur than it is a Shaq.

Or maybe because they actually had the best players in 2008? 2004 had a lot of dropouts and had to rely on players like Marbury, Jefferson, Odom and a bunch of young players.

They will win if they exactly go fast pace, when they beat top seed spain in 2004 marbury goes hot and Spain was suppose to contend in 2004 already

Some people still don’t realize that MDA transformed the entire way that modern NBA offenses play, and it wasn’t 5-10 teams who followed his lead, it was all 30. He’s had more long lasting influence on the NBA then any coach from the past 20 years imo.

You think the lack of dominant centers explains why players have become much better shooters from the 3-point line?

Yup.

All folks really need to know to understand why this era is drastically different from any era before they can easily find if they can think to look:

1. D'Antoni's '04-05 Suns lit the NBA on fire with extremely high ORtg playing at a faster pace and shooting more 3's than anyone else.

2. In '20-21, every single team shoots more 3's than those Suns did, and those Suns would be tied for last in pace, and the average ORtg is way higher than it was back then.

That's it. That's the one thing to understand about modern basketball.
