Kobe tries not to miss "meaningless" games that wont improve standings or games that "he doesn't have to play" because as he said in the past(and also showed in the past by not missing out on games like this), he plays every game that he can because fans bought tickets to see him.

btw, playing the game to get his legs back after missing 8 games recently in a season that you rarely have practice time is another reason for Kobe to play, especially when the playoffs are this close.

no problem with that but hopefully he doesn't chuck for a scoring title. He is an all time great he should show the game more respect than that. To be fair though we'll have to wait and see what he does tomorrow.

Playing through those injuries? Playing in "meaningless" games because fans bought tickets to see him? Being one of the hardest working player? All those aren't "showing respect to the game?"

Plus he is averaging 23 FGA this season. So what would you consider "chucking for a scoring title"?
Keep in mind that Artest and Barnes is out, and if a few other starters may not play, than those FGA numbers will have to go up. So being that he is already averaging 23 FGA and that he has to take more because of all the players out, how many FG attempts would you consider "chucking for a scoring title" tomorrow?

My calculator says Kobe needs 35 not 38.

Durant scored 32 tonight. You're not accounting for that

Ah. I saw the 65-game totals and figured tonight's game was already included, with Durant missing one this year. Thanks for the help.

Most sites (NBA, ESPN, CBS) update the figures ~4AM EST, and BBR updates around 6AM :)

Odds are Kobe really wants the scoring title but will sit it out, because he's paranoid about his 'selfish' image.

Kobe needs the game time and a run for the scoring title makes the game that much more entertaining, imo. 8-)

I doubt Brown likes Kobe. I've heard that Fisher is the only Laker that got along with Kobe, so odds are a new coach wouldn't like Kobe either.

He is going to break the all time point record. It is actually pointless to even bother going for the scoring title like this. Who honestly cares about scoring the most for the 4th season? It is easily the most selfish style of basketball to chuck up 40 shots in a pointless game to get the scoring record. It isn't like that anyone would care that he won a 4th, five years from now. It is crazy people want him to play bad basketball just for individual stats.

What Durant did was embarrassing.

Not saying it's bad, in fact in encourage it, but there is absolutely no reason for Kobe to play besides the scoring title.

You are such a homer its hilarious... Why do you think Durant played these last 2 days with the 2nd seed locked up? To say goodbye to his dear friends in sacramento and denver??

If OKC would've beat Denver tonight they would've guaranteed a first round matchup with Denver.

That is infinitely more reason to play than any reason Kobe has to play tomorrow. (besides the title)

EDIT: Brown came out and said that the Lakers will not play any starters except Kobe. I bet you all can guess why

I kind of want KD to win the scoring title now, he seems desperate. Good guy though.
"I probably won't watch. If I don't win the scoring title or MVP or whatever, it doesn't mean that I didn't have a good year by my standards," Durant said.

"To think back on everything I've done this season, I've gotten better. I've improved in every area I wanted to improve in. I scored a few points but I think as a defender and as a facilitator, I got better."

Durant said he considered it probably his best NBA season yet.

"If I don't win any awards, that's cool with me. I just want to grow as a player and hopefully they start to come later in my career," he said.

How? Kobe wasn't selfish during that 2008-111 season when he got gasol. He chucked up shots when he had kwame brown and smush parker. This season he was probably the worst he has ever been

The hate is strong in you. If he doesnt go for it, you see it as him protecting his image. If he does get it, guaranteed you would also say he is selfish. You a bulls fan no? Newsflash....MJ was also selfish, but thats also what made his drive so ferocious in becoming the goat. Kobe is of the same cloth. I know he'll go for it and he should. Wats wrong with adding to your legacy?
