Batum was the one that gave the Blazers this win...he was the one that gave them the lead and all the momentum doing everything right on both ends of the court. The Rockets were never the same when he went on a tear in the 3rd qt. after being down by 16pts.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Lin, a poor defensive player, was kept on him?

You mean, Jeremy Lin, the 14th best defender this season, and the guy that held Lillard to 3-9 shooting 0 assist?

Rockets would win the game.

Can you imagine what it would be like if you know what you were talking about? Probably not since you have no experience with that.

Good response, pup. Even Rocket fans in this thread said the Douglas match-up was better than Lin. Lillard was passive throughout the entire game since Batum was wrecking people, but at the end of the 4th and OT, he was in take-over. Not to mention, a bunch of those threes were on Parsons as they were switching the pick n roll.

Lin is not a good defensive player. If you can look past his ethnicity, you can see him for what he is - a middle-of-the-pack point guard with good offensive skills and not-so-great defensive skills.

So how would you explain the fact that Lin has the 14th best PPP allowed in the entire league prior to this game? People not looking pass his ethnicity and decide to miss shots? Maybe you should be the one to look pass his ethnicity and admit that Lin is a very good defender. You know, facts.

I dint think your guys complaints about Douglas killing the offensive flow at the end are valid. Harden was the culprit of that, and your interim coach didnt stop him. Also, I lost some respect for Harden. I know its common in basketball to play for the foul, but James didnt even try to score. He would just flop around with any contact in the 4th and OT, and hog the ball, which truly killed the flow.

fwiw, i was listening to stan van gundy on the radio this week and he said that he was a huge numbers guy but the only numbers he completely disregarded where advanced stats on individual defense. team defense numbers are very useful, according to him, but individual numbers are useless.

his reasoning was that these measures don't take into account the assignments and the instructions given to a defensive player and don't penalize players for not rotating properly. when the ball gets moved around, you can have multiple defensive assignments in the same sequence and it's not because your "man" scored that you are the one responsible.

i can see that this year, for example, battier has very decent stats against big men but the problem is that miami has to give him so much help whenever a 4 puts it in on the floor that teams are getting wide open looks from the corners. battier is also giving tons of offensive rebounds, that doesn't hurt his defensive rating either.

Doesn't matter who you put on The Successor, he's gonna score.

(playing Douglas in OT instead of Lin basically a response to what Lillard did down the stretch?)

I just thought it was a little bit better defensive matchup. I thought Jeremy played well and I thought Toney did well. Both our point guards played well tonght.

Looked all over the internet and that's the only response available for now.

I didn't watch the game, and I'm sure you didn't either...but even you know that Douglas is complete garbage and is much worse than Lin.

Douglas is not complete garbage. He's a great perimeter defender and a decent shooter. He may not be an ideal PG and things didn't work out in NY, but he's not complete garbage.

Yea I'm not really seeing the Calderon in him either.

It's funny how much hate Jeremy Lin gets though. People forget how little experience he has as an NBA player. He's a starting PG who hasn't even played a full season yet. When you take that into consideration, the guy looks pretty damn good.

Since when did Jose Calderon post elite defensive stats?

Lin has the tendency to get gassed out there on the court. That's probably what happened.

Great defender = ranked 151st in points allowed per possession
Decent shooter = .273 fga
