PHILLY with the steal

Well they got two firsts for a guy they probably were going to let walk, including an unprotected Miami 2021 pick, which is the year he high schoolers come back to the draft I think.

Which makes the original Blake Griffin trade even better in retrospect.

This is an absolutely amazing haul if they foresaw Tobias likely leaving in free agency. I still graded it a win-win because Philly obviously going all in this year and Tobias should really help them. Two trade partners with different agendas is when a win-win is most possible.

Feel bad for Tobias traded again but he’s gonna get a chance to ball in the playoffs and set himself nicely for next contract.

If Clippers trade Tobias, who knows what else they might line up before Thursday. I would bet on one more significant move from them, if not quite as big. I mean they are almost able to make a credible offer for AD at this point, but I think the asking price is too much for Jerry. If he can trade for AD and sign say a Kawhi, that’s pretty huge though.

it works

Am I missing something?

Harris - 14.8
Boban - 7
Scott - 4.3

Total - 26.1

you're right, forgot about Scott. Philly would need to cut 1.8mil somewhere to make it work. we'll see

Bigger question..is LAC going all in on AD now? Because SGA + four 1sts including that 2021 Miami unprotected is a serious offer.

The Clipper bringing in AD would be amazing. Please take Leonard in the offseason as well.

I think people see Harris and just assume he's another ISO scorer, but the guy has really been a multifaceted dynamite scorer that's been able to do it in a multitude of ways. With that said I had no idea his spot up numbers were that good, so that's even better for Philly.

Not enough mention that the Clippers get to keep their pick if they fall down to the lottery. This trade helps that goal tremendously.

Clippers traded Harris when his value was highest. He obviously wants max money this summer, and has just proven he's a 2nd option on bad team, 3rd on good team over and over again. Nice guy, great player. For Clippers FO to get two 1sts out of this and a young guy is great by me.

Now if they can do the same with Beverley+Bradley I'd be ecstatic.

Clippers may package picks to make a run at AD now...

This is basically Landry Shamet and 2 firsts (the 2020 first won't even be good, that 2021 first probably is top 10 i'll admit) for their best player by far. I know the plan is to go get 2 max guys and they probably do that but they could fail that (Kawhi is comfortable in Toronto, everyone will want KD, Klay most likely stays, Butler could end up staying, Kyrie could stay or go elsewhere), then what, you gave up Tobias Harris for nothing. This is basically what the Knicks did but even they prompted and told that KP wouldn't resign.

For the 76ers, they add another piece to the championship puzzle and didn't even give up anyone of value. I don't see how this isn't a win for them.

No, they gave up Tobias Harris for picks and a young player, not nothing. If they don't land anybody, they also have cap space that can be rented out for more picks. You play a year in the lottery land a pick that doesn't go to Boston and try again the year after. If you aren't comfortable building long term with Tobias Harris as a max player, then this is an absolute no brainer. Hell, they just signed Blake and ended up having to flip him a few months later, because they weren't comfortable long term. It made them look kind of bad. Why not skip that step and do it now.

I mean i agree that Tobias isn't a max player but is this it? basically this is a dime to the dollar in terms of return. I agree they shouldn't have agreed to what Harris wanted but 5/100 wouldn't have been bad and again, like the knicks, they're basically gambling on the fact that they land a F.A (i'd know this, the lakers have been doing this hoping and praying for F.A's to come for years, it really isn't that easy).

Now obviously, if they can lure their 2 max F.A's, than this is a win.

I would have thought that if they wanted to deal anyone to clear up cap, it would be to cash up on Gallinari and trade him for expirings.

He turned down 4/80. He is getting the max.

As far as gambling on a free agent, I don't see it that way at all. They are trying to get to a contender level. Tobias Harris as a max player isn't getting you there. With this trade, they get quite a bit of trade currency, essentially 3 1st round picks, one unprotected in 2021. That is a great return. Now, they can go Plan A and Plan B. If they land a max free agent, that is great. If not, then you are simply patient. You use that cap space to rent it out for at least 1 more 1st rounder and maybe more. You are worse this year and next year. That means you probably keep your lottery pick this year and next year instead of sending it to Boston. You maintain cap space for 2020 to try again. Meanwhile you have draft capital to trade for the next star that hits the trade market.

Biggest losers of this trade are the Celtics

Clippers will probably fall into the lottery (and keep their pick) and Kings can take their place in the play-offs.

Which gives the Celtics a warchest of 2019 picks like #18 and #26 to go after AD.

What do you think Harris will command? I forget Joel and Simmons are on rookie deals so it’s a good time to spend like this. Keeping all 4 would be nice. Not a superstar but a more realistic very good player.

Still depth remains the issue going forward. Which isn’t the hardest problem in the world to fix. Hope they all stay. Could be a scary team for the next few years.

Eh. The Miami 2021 unprotected is worth 2-3 Lakers picks in the late 1st round EASILY. If SGA is on table, Clippers have one of the better trade offers in the league. I DO agree with your second part though. Now is the time to try to get a late 1st for guys like Beverley. Stockpile a TON of picks for either trades or to simply draft if you strike out in free agency. I want Clips to tank so they don't lose the pick to Boston.
