The way Boston is built with so much perimeter investment/talent, the relative weakness of the team is the front court. So the narrative of Boston being "weak" in the front court a lot of time is misconstrued as Theis being a weak player. So in that sense he is underrated because he's not a weak player at all. He's very solid. But he is the relative weakness on the team no doubt.

Let's put this to rest then shall we. They are miles and miles apart.

Pretty much everyone agreed he’s underrated but Bam’s definately on another level.

Then you dig this thread up by yourself.

Youre the one calling Boston fans arrogant.

Dumbass scouts making such dumbass comparisons will make sure Theis stays underrated...he is a good player, but Bam is a legit All-Star and obviously much better

True, Theis is underrated, not an All-star tho, he's a good role player. Doesn't get any type of respect from the refs and probably never will.
Good assessment:

Theis was good all year. A massive reason why the team managed to be successful even after losing Horford and everyone thinking they had no big to protect the rim. He constantly played bigger than his size. Bam simply was too big and athletic for him.

An “anonymous source” is the only person who said it. Every Celtic fan in this thread said Bam was better prior to the series. There was nothing to put to rest because it wasn’t a debate to begin with

Agreed. Theis is playing better than expected (many people in Germany weren't sure if he could even get a roster spot in the NBA) and i think that he deserves more than 5 million a year, but he was never supposed to be a starter in the NBA. Obviously his job isnt to score, but i think the team would massively profit from him becoming a decent 3pt shooter.

Theis had a great year for the Celtics and is a very solid player. Bottomline Bam Adebayo dominated Theis and the Celtics. Celtics need an upgrade

This scout was probably a Miami Heat plant to fire up Bam.

Are we talking about currently or leading into the playoffs? Leading into the playoffs, I think it is obvious now that Theis, Jamal Murray, and Jimmy Butler were all underrated. Theis was kind of an afterthought but proved himself to be an important role player. Jamal Murray showed he is an all-star level player when he was viewed as below all-star by many before the playoffs. Butler was viewed as an all-star player, but I don't think people were viewing his toughness and leadership as something that made him superstar level. However, all three players are getting respect now, so I don't think any of the three are currently the most underrated. I'm sure the most underrated is somebody we are not even talking about.

Still think Theis is a very solid center for that Celtics team build. He obviously had a very difficult matchup that might've taken him out of his game a bit, but vs the vast majority of NBA teams he's sufficient for what Boston does. Celts are a perimeter wing centric team, can't expect them to have stars at every position
