Whats the context here? Why would David West who play most if not all of his career in the west coast, made a comment about a random team on the easttern conference?

I know Bargnani is rightfully a laughing stock, but this isn't the first time a contemporary of his has talked about how hard he was to guard. Zooming out it is easy to see how bad Bargnani was, and no NBA player would compliment his team defense or work on the boards. But Bargnani had gravity. His reputation as a shooter was better than his shooting, he had a wicked first step, and was a rare 7 footer would could stop and pop after putting the defense in panic mode. From the perspective of someone guarding Bargnani, he was a tough cover.

Bosh and Bargnani weren't a problem on offense. In their time together, they were mostly a top 10 offense, peaking as a top 5 defense in Bosh's last year when Turkoglue joined the all-offense, no defense attack. That team ranked dead last on defense and finished 40-42. Defense was the problem here. They had 2 above league average defensive seasons together, the same years they made the playoffs. Even in their best Bosh/Bargs seasons, they always struggled to rebound the ball obviously. But this frontcourt also never had strong guard play. Jose Calderon was probably their best guard from this era, beating out a POWERFUL list of guys like: TJ Ford, Anthony Parker, Juan Dixon, Carlos Delfino and an EPIC list of small forwards like: Joey Graham and Jamario Moon.

The Bosh/Bargs Toronto teams were not good. No debate here. But when you look at the rest of the team, it seems weird to lay the entirety of the blame at their feet. Bargs is an easy punching bag for sure, but he wasn't the Raptors main problem in the mid-late 2000s.

Just because someone can shoot a three at 6'10 or above by no means they're dominating anything. Now if someone like Bruce Bowen or Andrei Kirilenko(someone who could guard 1-3, maybe some 4's) played in today's league, he may be valued a little more.
