If Doncic's defense falls off cliff after last game, i'll still be shocked how good he can be if he really tries. I can't believe how good as a unit Mavs have become on defense this season.

Not happening until KP deal is out. He's taking up 1/3 of the cap while providing literally nothing.

I'll just repeat what Hornets coach said after the game. KP and WCS long arms really bothered them. Those two protected the paint while Luka and others protected the perimeter. If Gobert can be paid 200M i think sure as hell KP can be paid big $$$ while also being a great floor spacer and 2ndary option. Obviously him being healthy can be up for discussion but still, saying he does "literally nothing" is very wrong.

I second that. The Mavs are a different animal with Porzingis on the floor. Of course defensivley (i love the combination with Cauley-Stein) but also offensivley with the added spacing. They do not necessarily need 'one more piece'. That unit can beat anybody in the playoffs. The parts fit very well.

The thing is that you can bet your house that come PO KP will be unavailable or rusty as usual and rusty KP is 18 points on 16 shots and 5 rebounds. That's not 35/year production.

I dislike seeing KP try to inefficiently create shots for himself, but if he can mostly play great defense and space the floor while hitting spot up 3s, that makes him a better version of Gobert and he's worth that money. Of course, he has to stay healthy.

Anyway, I agree that with in-shape KP we have good chances against Nuggets and Lal. We missed not only KP against Lac and we still looked good. With a fully healthy squad and good KP we can fight even with Richardson/THJ/Kleber being our 3rd beat player. And boy do I hope WCS continues to get better. I gave him a lot of grief when we re-signed him but he made me eat a crow so far.

People should decide, what kind of Mavs they want to have. If they are ok with Luka being extremly ball dominant, then players like KP, Kleber, Richardson and even THJ is a good fit. If you want some kind of more ball sharing Mavs, then you need totally different players, more stars in a team. Now Luka is basically generating the whole Mavs offense, why would you take the ball out of his hands and give it to let's say Lowry or Kemba?

Many are not liking THJ, but he's doing amazing job in Dallas. He was 40% for 3 last year and is even better this year, with very big volume.

Mavs must stick with Luka having the ball in his hands 24\7 because it's the 2nd best thing in basketball after Bron having the ball in his hands 24\7. I don't want Kemba and Lowry, I want better role players. DFS is crap, no 3 no D, I want a proper starting SF, I want a good big next to KP who is an above average rebounder and can defend in space and give me efficient 12 points. Kleber isn't a quality starter when you're in WCF or even 2nd round, neither is WCS. They are great bench players but I don't wanna see them play 30 minutes in PO against Denver or Lal Lac starters.

Kleber is made to start besides Luka and KP. KP is a C in D, so you need to pair him with PF. AD would be even better of course. I more or less agree with other, but I believe that 1 very good 3&D player + someone better than Brunson to run second unit might be enough, with healthy KP and better conditioned Luka. Rubio instead of Brunson would be huge for start.

Meh, I don't know, I've loved Kleber since his 2nd year but he was so ass vs Lac... He's a meh rebounder and doesn't really do much on O for a starter. I hope Brunson improves but he's what, almost 25 now and unlikely will improve much. Rubio would be good, always liked him, crappy as a scorer but is a lockdown defender and a great floor general who has a lot of experience of big games.
Anyway, let's see how things go, the season is still very young. Maybe there'll be ssome talent on the waivers market or some weird Kyrie-like situation will appear lolol. Boy do I love NBA, it's like a never-ending TV drama.

Maxi is not a solution to the problem. I think he is a choker and has shown to bomb when it matters. Playoffs were a good example. He actually played 34 minutes per game, up from RS 25.5. And yet his point total dropped. His 3p% dropped from 0.373 to 0.192. Even his FT% dropped by 10 percentage points. It was a massive choke job and he was looking very frightened every time he received the ball. If I were Mavs I would be looking to trade him, just based on that. Because if he doesn't deliver in the playoffs, he is useless. Nobody cares for RS players. Except the Knicks.

1 bad series is enough to proclaim someone a choker? In that case maybe Burke is a solution? He had great series against Clippers. ;) The problem against Clippers was only KP, they would have good odds to beat Clippers with him. Btw he's already in injury report.

Sell high. If he has another bad playoff season his value will drop by a lot. It's not just that he was performing badly. He LOOKED like the moment was too big for him from the first minute.
As for Burke - what's not to like. Dude is a baller, and has the right mindset. I'm keeping him. To have a guy like him on the bench can't be bad. The difference between him and Maxi is that Maxi is on 9M contract while Burke is on a 3M contract.

I don't think value received would be anything special or even worth it, as he is a very useful RS player... but I'd like to replace those 9M with someone else. And yeah I know I'm the only one that's not praising him. But every time I hear praise I think "It doesn't matter, once the playoffs start, he's a ghost." I hope I'm wrong. But if I'm not wrong... it's a problem.

The role was just too big for him, he was expected to start and play starter minutes, he's not that kind of player, that's why he was shook. He is a great bench player who shouldn't be playing more than 22-24 minutes and mostly against other benchers. No way I trade him unless it's a package for an elite 3rd wheel. He's still young, one of the best bench bigs in the entire league. I definitely wouldn't want Boban and Powell playing his minutes.

You might be right or you might be wrong. 1 playoffs series is too little for any kind of conclusion. And if I remember right, he had some kind of hand injury.

Not that I'm taking anything you write seriously from the way you're writing, but Kleber played with a fractured finger in the playoffs which basically explains the dropoff.

He's also the best defender on the team on a bargain contract. But yeah let's just trade him away for the heck of it.

Luka was never out of the MVP race. He just needed some games to burn off the summer fat.

Not happening until KP deal is out. He's taking up 1/3 of the cap while providing literally nothing.

That will change as his minutes restriction ends. He proved again against Charlotte that brings an elite skill to the 4/5 position that pretty much no team except Denver has. Well and the Lakers. KP isn’t going anywhere.

It really isn't that difficult to find players around Luka. You have too shoot and defend, play making is not that important. Someone like Mikal Bridges would be perfect. Maybe more problematic will be find a player, who will run second unit. Someone good, but being ok not starting. Maybe Ricky Rubio will be prepared to take this role.

If Jalen Brunson aint it, maybe the Mavs should look at an over-the-hill point guard. Patty Mills, Lowry, Rubio, George Hill?

Rubio would be fun. Mills is also good. Hill has been a negative for a couple of seasons already, was horrid in the PO. Lowry also too old.

Lowrey would be perfect on a 1+1 deal.

I will take my words back once he's healthy and in-game shape for at least 3\4 of our PO games in 21. So far he hasn't finished one season healthy in his 5 year career so far. I know it's not his fault, but it doesn't make me less frustrated.
