one of the main complaints about fit was Steven clogging paint for Zion JV more of a spacer now?

Yea but… everyone saying that were wrong. The Pelicans didn’t have issues offensively with Adams and Zion offensively. The Pelicans were +5.3 with Adams on the floor. Jonas is certainly a much better shooter than Adams and overall a better offensive player, but we had no problem generating looks to the guards. We just didn’t have a ton of shooting from our perimeter players to capitalize. Zion is going to abuse the paint, doesn’t matter who is down there.

Defensively Adams was a big issue. I think some of it was due to injuries, and overall the motivation to play good D seemed low. He should bounce back next year, but I can’t see Jonas being a falloff defensively and on the glass compared to Adams last year, and he’s a huge improvement on the other end.

Hopefully he is on the phone with his Raptor buddy to make another run together

Griffin made a stupid moves by giving Adams that deal. Had to make up for it. The Bledsoe deal was still worth it. There was a good chance he played well and could have been moved.

For Memphis they have space space to take on these contracts. Get a future first rounder. And a lottery pick this year. If they have someone they really like then its worth it.

They moved up 7 spots. If the trade was outright for the 10th overall pick and they weren't throwing in a 2nd it would be much closer to fair.

I still personally wouldn't have done the deal but at least they wouldn't be getting fleeced.

If they really like someone they think they can get at 10 it makes sense.

And they got a pick from the Lakers out of it.

JV do something different next to Zion than what Adams was doing?

I’m a fan of JV but ya he does the majority of his damage inside. He also is a worse defender than Adams.

I mean they cleared up cap space and JV is on his last year of his deal. And if they turn that into something good. But I think they gave up the best asset in this trade which is the 10th pick.

Then from the Griz side. I get taking on Bledsoe’s deal to move up to 10 because they could just buy him out this season. But taking on 2 bad contracts is a bit much. And JV might have been their most talented scorer on a team that struggled to score consistently. Again ya I think they got the best asset in the deal and probably will look to flip that to get higher in the draft.

I don’t know, reading the details of the trade my initial reaction for both sides was “huh?”

I don’t think it’s horrible for either side, but I think it’s more of a neutral-slight loss for both sides.

Memphis is trading up in a draft that appears to be very good and they're also picking up a future 1st. I think that this is a great move for them.

yea, I think they are ready to move forward with JJJ @ center, they also have Clarke and Tillman, might even take another big @ 10 if they really like someone (Garuba? Sengun?)

but yea, this doesn't really matter for Memphis at all, and they get an extra 1st next yr as well most likely.

JJJ isn’t durable at all at the 4 position, he’s always injured. He’s a **** rebounder too, and now with the physicality of the 5 position he won’t last doing it full time

Huge improvement over Adams. JV brings similar level of defense and rebounding so Zion doesn't need to exert himself there in the RS. And then on offense he can atleast stand at the 3 and someone needs to stay close. May not be Brook Lopez or Myles Turner but still a very solid piece to have. He'll atleast space to mid range and give Zion space which Adams could never do.

Great trade for the Pelicans. They have young assets, 10->17 not a huge deal for them. Then offload Adams and Bledsoe and get back the most underrated big man in the league.

this is what i was looking for. Hadn't really had the chance to see JV like that recently, wasn't sure how much changed about his game.

Ya he's been awesome in Memphis. I honestly can't believe they just gave him up like that and also took on 2 bad contracts to move up 7 spots. I genuinely believe they could have got back like a mid FRP for just Jonas. Effective starting big, does it all, and on a fair contract.

I'm one of the few here that think Grizzlies won this trade.

- Adams is as good as Val except Val was in a good spot and Adams was in a bad one.
- Grizzlies effectively get 10 and LAL pick for taking on Bledsoe and giving 17.

I think in 6 months people are going to see that Griff goofed again.

Val is lightyears ahead of Adams offensively.

He CAN. Heblets em fly here and there. Which is a big difference from a guy who never has. Mid range is money too unlike adams. zion still dominated without said space. Adams just wasnt good. Jonas is still an upgrade in both regards. Can hit a 3 and dominate inside. I like it.

Sure but the offensive on off doesn’t really tell the whole story because it was either Willy who also doesn’t spread the floor, or Hayes who has no offensive skills outside of putbacks. Zion has yet to play with a big that can stretch the floor. Ingram had the 2nd worst spacing in the NBA for all 20 ppg scorers. They should actually try putting spacing around Zion, not just more low post scorers.

And I wouldn’t count on JV having a better impact defensively than Adams. He doesn’t have better awareness or better mobility than Adams.

JV can shoot the 3 if he really needs too, Adams wouldn’t dare step outside the arc.

yall don't understand this from Memphis perspective, JV was useless for them, it was time to give the 5 hole to JJJ anyways, and they have Tillman rook from last year as well...Adams is just filler/bench mob guy at this point for them

the guy they will get @ 10 we're talking in the Jalen Johnson or Jonathan Kuminga category vs. the guy they could've gotten @ 17, and you're adding next year's Lakers pick on top of it.

Pels made a mistake giving Adams that 2 year extension. They had to attach a protected Lakers pick just to get off that upcoming contract. Oh, and Bledsoe, who I assume should be moved to the Lakers.

JV was low key the grizz's most important player.

Don't get how this is bad for Memphis. It's a trade with a long term plan in mind. They weren't going anywhere next season with JV, he's not a star or young and he'll be looking for an extension. It's a fine move to trade up (while getting another 1st rounder for next season).
