I think Morey was simply thinking: "If we can make it two months (Dec-15), then there will be more teams available to trade for him due to the ability of FA's to be traded as well as teams hanging on to premium assets (Lillard/Beal) being more open to a trade due to a slow start."
I totally get why he trade to drag it across the finish line, but it aint going well.

If I'm a Sixers fan and have season tickets and am paying thousands of dollars - I demand a full refund if this dude is still in uniform prior to the first game.

NBA tickets are way too expensive for this guy to not give his all. Absolutely pathetic!

Really as simple as that. Suspension fines are probably cheaper than withholding salary for being in breach of your contract.

Joel may have complicated this situation several times but you have to give him props for how brutally honest he is.

Didn't Butler lead the second unit to victory in a practice then yell "you guys **** need me"? Not sure how Simmons texting during practice is comparable to that.

And then Butler's camp decided to randomly sit out regular season games due to "general soreness" and "precautionary rest"... and word was that it would continue into an extended absence... he was then traded.

Wait are Doc and Morey truly this stupid? They cant be right? Did they really think Simmons would just come in and play hard for them?

Doc when asked if Simmons wanted to be part of the team, "hopefully at some point."

Dude just straight up no. We know the answer to this, Simmons has made it very clear he wants no part of this team at all. The only reason he is showing up is because he has to, not because he wants to. Guess what, forcing someone to do what they dont want to do wont eventually lead to them wanting to do it.

I would've thought that when Simmons rejoined the team, that actually meant he sat down with Doc and Morey to come up with a plan to move him. Both sides come out publicly kind of painting the other side in a brighter light and they coming out saying they will move Simmons. That is the best chance of stopping the slide of his value and to move him now.

But you force a guy who all summer has made it very clear he wants nothing to do with this organization back. And expect things to be all rainbows and sunshine? Now things are even worse, you got Embiid today flat out saying he doesnt care about Simmons at all. Morey couldn't have botched this anymore.

He told the Sixers he's not going to participate in rehabbing this value, and the only reason they're dragging this on is the hopes that he will. I don't think his value can get lower. At this point all 29 other GMs have thought deeply about the pros and cons of Simmons the player and personality.

Nahhh, one thing is now and the other is what happens when the season begins and teams begin to underperform.

GM make a lot of mistakes trying to save their jobs.

Sure if that's the narrative you want to run with...

Morey is the biggest clown through all of this. He overvalued Simmons knowing damn well he didn't have any leverage. The trade market essentially dried up and now he wants the team to patch up the relationship and save his ass. I fully support Simmons for giving them the middle finger.

The trade deadline is only just over 3 months away. A desperate team who's not doing so hot by that time will cave and give up the good stuff for Simmons. Happens every year.

yes absolutely, a struggling team will look at what simmons is doing with the sixers and think "yup, that's exactly what's going to turn our season around"

Wat are Sixers doing

Yep. Simmons is gonna be traded for someone the caliber of the GOAT Caruso at this point.

If that's the case they just won't trade him at all. They remain in no rush to have to make a move with him.

regardless of what happened after the playoffs - simmons came back, spoke with both doc and morey and after that, has acted in this manner so this is 100% on him and only him right now.

Especially for a player who's not THAT good to warrant the attention...

At this point, the only reason I enjoy it is to see Morey's hubris over the summer completely crumbling things around him.

Whether it's sitting Simmons with no replacements or letting him play in this state, you're wasting a year of Embiid's prime.

depends how long this goes on mid season and they are below .500 yea its going be problem...

It's amazingly refreshing to have a player who simply says what he thinks. I'm not sure if I even agree with him much of the time but I. appreciate his honesty. He's actually almost too honest to a fault but I rather have that instead of the usual PR spin that comes out of most front officers and locker rooms these days.
