Next season, this will not be worthy of the discussion. The answer will be obvious.

But outside of passionate NBA fans, I don't think many people know who Ja Morant is. So I would say no.

Excluding players who have gotten famous for non-basketball reasons (the Ball brothers, Kris Humprhies, Tristan Thompson, i.e. anyone who has dated a Kardashian so 20% of the league)...

Superstars are known by the average person. Everyone has at least heard of LeBron, Kobe, Magic, MJ, AI, Shaq, Giannis - - those are real superstars.

Man I would wager Giannis and AI are fringe...Magic might even be pushing it depending on age.

Point and case AAU kids 17 YO didn’t even know Magic had the bug...it’s not known - they know him as a old ole head.

Giannis wasn’t known by girls at Super Bowl party...

hes popping off but mostly hes bumslaying weak defenses playoffs coaches will gameplan.

He was AWESOME last night against my Bulls-we couldn't stop him (we really miss Ball/Caruso for D)
I think he is better than DRose was-who was a superstar

Might not be the best but in my opinion he is the most entertaining player in the NBA.

Every single game he delivers some type insane flashy play either by jumping/passing or ball handling.

I think its obvious now, Ja has taken the superstar leap. His numbers as a 22 year old are slightly better than Derrick Roses at the same age, the year Rose won MVP, plus hes equally as jaw dropping to watch. I'd say more because of his handle. For me, Ja is either the fifth or sixth best player in the league (Embiid, Jokic, Durant, Giannis top four, then its either Ja or Luka).

Edit before Curry fan: Curry is arguably top five too, but Ja and Luka are right there with him and pass him by next season.

Gameplan all you want. Its almost impossible to keep him out of the paint in an iso or high screen situation. Hes to quick and good with his handle to trap. Similar to Drose in 2011, hes taken the superstar leap where you can try whatever defensively, but it wont matter. If he can improve from 3 memphis is a title contender, if they arent already. Their core all have room to grow too, not just morant.

I saw the light officially against the Bulls. There is no doubt he is a superstar.

He is gaining a lot of ground in terms of his MVP Ranking. His team is winning games.
He is poised to be an All-Star starter and is one of the top selling jerseys. And his game is made for highlights.

Is he already a Superstar? The first in their franchise history

One of my favourite players in a lot of ways.
He might be there, but I want to see what he does in the playoffs now he has a capable team around him.

Not expecting championships yet, but playoffs are where superstars are made.

Absolutely.

Oh, and relying on the general public to determine greatness is always a silly thing to do. Look at music and movies for an example.

Yes.

1. Curry
2. Doncic
3. Irving
4. Paul
5. Lillard
6. Young
7. Morant
8. Westbrook

These 8 PGs have the superstar label imo for current/past accomplishments.

Blah blah blah..if you have to argue that someone is a "superstar", the argument defeats itself.

It always seems obvious but consistency is the key. If Ja has a subpar year next season, all the goodwill from this season will be questioned and rightfully so. I mean, all we have to do is look at Luka who had 2 years of Superstar play but started the season slow and all the questions started.
