People say that because for 6 years in a row the Lakers missed the playoffs, and the year before that they got swept in the first round. Sure in the grand scheme of things the Lakers have plenty of championships, but over that 7 year period they looked pretty damn bad.
in case you missed it, lebron was part of those 6 years. and if we're counting first round exits and assume this year too, he's been part of a very bleak 10 year streak, that was interrupted for a brief disneyland vacation. see? lebron did bring continuity to the lakers. 10 years of tanking and first round exists and he's about to contribute his third
