Otto Porter should get it — they haven’t lost since he was inserted into the starting lineup.

Not for Ben Simmons.ben10simmons wrote:Curry pays the price for not being a 2-way player. Its more than a fair, because "defense and rebounding wins championships".

Re: Does Wiggins have a chance at Finals MVP?
Hey, I know you've been through a lot as a Blazer fan. Had to watch Dame gag up a .174 on 3s against the Spurs while getting hammered in the second round in 2014. But then, just when y'all were supposed to be the hot young rising team in 14-15, Dame went one step further and put up a .161 3FG% against the Grizzlies in a 4-1 shellacking. The same Grizz the Warriors beat the next round 4-2, with Curry shooting .400+ on 3s.Eric Millegan wrote:BoatsNZones wrote:Eric Millegan wrote:0/9 from 3
ZERO of NINE
And still shooting 42% from 3 on the series. A Finals stat line Lillard and friends can only dream of.
I know this is hard on you son. But you'll be OK.
Alright, I'll stop feeding the troll now.
Lillard has the NBA Playoff Record for Three Point Shots Made In A Game (12)
Curry has the NBA Playoff Record for Most Threes Attempted Without A Make In A Game (9)
Don't even begin to compare them. Put Dame on the Warriors instead of Curry and the Warriors win in 2016. Dame gets to WCF with Aminu and Harkless. How did Curry do without Klay last year? Yep. He didn't even make the playoffs. Checkmate.
Then you got to watch Portland deteriorate, while the Warriors dominated. Tough, I know. Don't let it warp reality quite so much. This isn't a TV series, where someone will find all the clues to come up with an airtight, surprise solution to a perplexing problem. Save the dumb takes for the podcast, or the standup bits in front of a friendly audience.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

Thought this thread was going to be at least interesting and fun conversation to get through the work day..but looks like another topic started by some lame who has a weird agenda against steph once again..

Curry has never been robbed. KD was the better player in 17 and 18. And in 15, Iggy changed the series by going into starting lineup and then he hit all the big shots throughout those last couple games. He was the obvious choice. Curry tends to fade when the games get more important. Look at Game 7 in 2016 (look at Game 5 the other night!). He can't answer Kyrie. Locked down by Kevin Love. Curry is most effective when his team is up 10 to 12 points. Then, with the pressure off, he can bury the opposition with threes. Then he dances and acts like he's a badass.
So being down 2-1 and avoiding going down 3-1 was not important, but the game tied 2-2 was the important one? Interesting...
Man, these floating game importance rankings are so laughable. I would have more respect if people who like to do this stuff put a standard ranking for game importance in their signature for us to reference and verify their consistency, so it doesn't just change to fit whatever narrative one wants to put forth.

Re: Does Wiggins have a chance at Finals MVP?
People are really rooting for Steph to not win the award, its like it validates in there minds that Steph is not that good
Lets be honest the only reason Wiggins is doing so good is because of how much the defense has to focus on Steph. Without Steph's gravity Wiggins is not doing a damn thing

With all the hate the media got voting Iggy last time, Wiggins would have to turn into MJ these last 2 games.
I think its nearly impossible for him to win. Steph will get it.

Re: Does Wiggins have a chance at Finals MVP?
Sure he still has a chance if it goes to game 7 and he totally dominates while Steph basically does nothing. If the question is whether he has a chance if his and Curry's production stay similar to what they have been so far, that's just laughable. That kind of "chance" is only real for the people who really just don't want Curry to be seen to be as great as he is.
There's no actual logical way from watching the games or from statistics where you can conclude that Wiggins has been the Warriors most valuable player so far. If you are concluding so, then all you are doing is exposing poor understanding of what is actually happening on the floor, or simply an extreme anti-Curry bias you are incapable of getting over / moving aside. That's fine, but just be honest about it and we can all acknowledge and move on.

....and he shouldn't win it either, so the media fear or ridicule shouldn't be a factor. If the series was over today, the argument for Wiggins over Curry for anyone watching the games and seeing what each has done so far and what is allowing Wiggins to do what he's doing is not there.
Wiggins defense has been solid, he's really hitting the glass excellently too, Wiggins is also still jumping too much on closeouts and losing the offensive player, and he's shooting 25% 3PT and 69% FT. You're not going to get MVP over the guy the opposing defense is loading up on who is averaging 31/6/5 by just being pretty good-ish overall.

floppymoose wrote:There is a huge recency bias in the FMVP voting. Curry clearly had a better series than Durant in Durants second FMVP campaign. But because Durant had the big final game, he got the award. So the real answer to this question is yes, Wiggins could get it. He would just need a huge game 6.
Steph actually outscored KD in 3 of the 4 games during the 2018 finals. KD just had a higher points per game average.
KD scored 43 while steph scored 11 in game 3, which is the game that skewed the scoring average towards KD.

If they close it out tonight and Wiggins drops 44pts and Curry has a subpar game I think the voters will still lean towards Curry. But if Curry stinks up the joint in game 6 and game 7 while Wiggins puts up strong perfomances like 28 pts 9 rebs 5 assists 53% fg and 33 pts 7 rebs 4 assists 50% fg w/ stellar defence he has a strong chance to steal finals mvp imo.

Only if Andrew Wiggins have 2 monster performances and Stephen Curry struggles for the following 2 games, which means there would need to be a game 7 for Wiggins to have any shot. If the Warriors close the series out tonight,no chance regardless how Curry or Wiggins plays.

Re: Does Wiggins have a chance at Finals MVP?
if wiggins is fmvp, i think it would underscore that nature of the small guard and his place among the other "more impactful" bigger players/positions in acquiring rings,,,,even in this day and age of the small guard and the importance of the 3.
like,,,when kareem or bill or tim or giannis or kobe or mj or magic or bird or kd play big THEY PLAY BIG and you can walk away saying "yeah it was all them". but when a small dude like curry plays big, it's like iggy (maybe wiggins) was really important.
could it be that with three bigs and two smalls, there's just more stuff important going on away from the guard,,,

When did I say Wiggins deserved it or he was better than Curry?
Just saying it has little to no chance of happening. Even if he played amazing the next few games and Curry is awful.

Even in game 5, when Curry did not make a 3, there was still a HUGE difference in GS offense when he was on the floor:

Curry on: OFFRTG 118.7
Curry off: OFFRTG 68.2
He doesn't have to always hit threes to be the engine of the team.
