When does the tournament start?

Edit: in september 1 it seems, seems a bit late for a nstional tournament tbh, would have thought august was ideal

The nba guys are gonna be either in excelent shape to start the season (will be interesting for giannis, luka or jokic mvp campaigns although i imagine jokic is locked out of the mvp race until he has another deep playoff run, and sadly so)

Or they will be shot from the lack of rest and offseason

I imagine for the superstar players the tournament will serve as a sort of "Pre-Training Camp" primer for the upcoming season. The championship game is on Sept. 18th so that's just over two weeks, which then I imagine gives the NBA players about a 2-week break before training-camp and the Preseason. Gianni/Jokic/Luka and the other NBA'ers haven't played since May so that's nearly 4 months of off-season time for them.

That would legit be one of the best non-usa teams of all time.

the reality is, they(serbia) wouldnt want him

because he doesnt speak the language? or they just dont like winning? that sounds like a pretty hot take, I dont really see Serbia as some exclusive club.

Because he's not a Serb. National squad is not a team that adds anyone with the passport, especially if they had acquired it only recently.

Is Slovenia deep enough or Luka alone can carry the team?

One serious injury to an NBA player on a max contract will end participation of NBA superstars in games outside the NBA.

The Netherlands somehow made it through the qualifiers and were placed in pot 6 (out of 6 pots) as the third lowest rated country in the tournament so I'd say it's pretty much a given we're going to win this without a single player anyone knows.

its not a hot take. its a fact. some players openly said they wouldnt play for the national team if they brought in a foreigner.
they have enough men to battle for the positions in the squad leaving quality players at home that other teams would gladly grab.

Don't know what I was thinking when I put Montenegro there... sorry, would have included more teams, but limited poll options.

Dear to my heart, Azzurri, announced their preliminary

PG. Nico Mannion / Marco Spissu / Stefano Tonut / Alessandro Pajola / Amedeo Della Valle
SG. Tommaso Baldasso / Gabriele Procida / Matteo Spagnolo / John Petrucelli
SF. Achille Polonara / Luigi DaTome / Simone Fontecchio
PF. Danilo Gallinari / Nicolo Melli / Giampaolo Ricci
C. Paul Biligha / Amedeo Tessitori

In typical Italian fashion, their best players seem to be scorers who play no defense, also entirety of their best players are either SFs, PFs, or hybrids of SF PFs. Lockjam there, drought in other positions. another recipe for disaster for the blue ones?

This team has fallen apart right after 2004 and havent risen since. Back in 05 / 06, they had easily the most promising young talent coming up in Europe, right behind USA in the entire world, Bargnani, Gallinari, Belinelli, DaTome supposed to be superstar prospects, Mancinelli supposed to be a backbone do it all leader. And it all turned into a biggest generational meltdown we probably ever seen in European basketball. And yes, I will put all the blame on Bargnani here, a guy who was such a negative on the court, its asinine that people here believe he ''would be good in todays NBA''. Golden generation, that didnt even make Eurobasket at all in 09, missed Eurobasket 2011, but was bailed out by FIBA after increase number of teams.

Heres for a better tomorrow for Italian basketball. They have 2 great clubs, Virtus is back in Euroleague, Paulo Banchero wants to play for Italy in the future. Dark times are behind us.

Not really. Luka played in the qualifiers for the world cup and done individual training before joining the national team preparations and started vacations on July 4th. He will now have a month off and continue preparations for the Eurobasket and finish mid-September. So he will have, again, much less rest than most other players.

And the team should be stronger for a Euroleague point guard Zan Mark Sisko who really was missed at the Olympics last year. Also its quite possible Goran Dragic plays, he came back from a 5 year retirement from the national team to have sort of a farewell game in June, but he is thinking about extending his return for the Eurobasket.

Well, I imagine also Gianni and Jokic are both doing individual training/working out as well generally, as there've been multiple posts from Gianni himself working out in SEF Stadium (Athens).

I also imagine Luka wanted to get a head-start on physical fitness after last year's truncated off-season.

Wow, no Čižauskas, how is that possible  Gediminas Orelik is amazing come back story, if he actually made National team, that would be amazing. Always loved him, he sure plays no defense, but man can stroke it, and I intentionally said it this way cause I am happy Čižauskas is not on this list.
