He wants to come to Detroit, it's all day discount city.

If Weaver does sign him to some idiotic contract, it'll be the first real black mark on his resume with the Pistons, and I'll be just a little peeved.

 The whole point of why he’d be going to DET in the first place is because he’s NOT looking to take a discount.

He won’t do it for the place he played his entire career, won multiple rings with, in a beautiful city year round that is STILL a championship calibre team but says the hell with all that, I wanna take less money to play in Detroit lol really?! Come on believing that’s comically bad.

Now if you pay him, well he can help the city to try & rise up again….

Rise up

I just hope some our youth take big steps this year to make signing a expensive older vet move the needle.

He was even mentioning coming here as a 2nd alternative back when he signed his last contract as well if i remember correctly.

What's the most you'd pay him and how many years next July?

He will turn 33 in March.

I think if the Warriors tried to lower his salary or not offer him enough years in an extension, he could bolt to spite them, even if he didn't get a max contract.

For instance, he's on a 4-year $100 million contract and if the Warriors offered him a lower annual average and say just 3 years, he might burn bridges and leave town if another team offered him 4-years $80-90 million.

Seems the type to hold grudges and feel the Warriors screwed him, though he will have made almost $300 million in his career, never averaging double-digits.

He can do what he wants but seems like it's crazy to leave Curry and team and go chase an extra bit of money. You are part of a historic trio, why not try and get another ring and boost the resume even more.

I like Detroit's young squad but if he wants to go there I would ringchase some more in SF then go to Detroit when Cade is near his prime as an older vet. Going now doesn't make sense.
Rest in peace Kobe & Gianna

I could see Draymond leaving if he feels disrespected, but he has to know that he is going to be judged harshly if he doesn't succeed away from Steph. I think he's being a good businessman like he talks about on his podcast, the CEO of his "self corporation". The best leverage is making leaving seem like a real possibility.

I highly doubt he would ever leave the Warriors for anything but an overpay.

I hope he knows people will stop listening to his podcast if he's playing on a 30 win team every year and/or averaging 8 ppg on a non contending team.

If the Pistons are a 30 win team 2+ years from now (with or w/o Draymond on it), that would be a major disappointment.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Believe what? He wants to play in Detroit, he can bite the bullet, and take a smaller contract. Otherwise, enjoy California. Thought that was obvious in my post.

It's like you didn't even read what was written.

Declined somewhat I can accept, also Detroit has quite a lot of talent, even if you sign him for 3 years, you get two out of him then use him as an expiring contract would do good for the pistons. They are a bad team now but they could also win 30 to 40 games if things align.

In addition to his decline, He only plays 50 games at below 30 min nowadays.

I’d say he plays 45-50 games at 25 min max for the 3 seasons starting 2023.

For teams that are top 4 in their conference, without much help from Draymond in the regular season, he might be able to make a 2nd round team become a true champ contender.

For any other team, you will regret paying him more than MLE.

I disagree, The team would get a lot out of draymond of course not huge stats but he would help that team a ton with everything esle. You don’t win 4 titles as being a very vital piece without being intelligent. He would never sign for the mle, unless he was promised to get down the line like what the heat are doing for haslem all these years.

He’s great when he’s on the court. He can’t play more than 50-60 games though at 34-38 yo

Ask again next July, i really dont know. I know i wouldn't max him but how much hes worth going forward depends on after next season.

I see no issue with them going after a guy like Draymond. He’ll provide some leadership for the young team and by the time Cunningham/Ivey are up for their extensions, his deal will either be done or close to it.

We don’t need leadership. Cade provides plenty of that already. What we need is a defensive identity and intensity. Outside of Stewart, we don’t play Pistons defense, the kind that was won us all three of our chips.

That’s why I’m interested in Draymond. If he can still play well enough to be neutral himself (and he’s still well above that) but get our young guys, particularly Duren, to play smart D, he’d be worth a pretty big deal to Detroit. Not the max, but at least what he’s currently making for another three years.

Of course, he has that same job right now with Wiseman, and Steph doesn’t want him to go, so he probably gets his money and stays.

I also included being a non contending team but just averaging 8 ppg. Pistons might be a playoff team but he'd be 8ppg scorer on it.

I can not imagine Draymond in another uniform but I would not blame him if he wants to return home to spend more time with his family
