Yeah but when you look at top 10 to ever play the game. Winning does become a part of the equation. When the talent level is that high other factors are included and yes championships matter when it comes top 10. Differential factors do come in.
Winning is not the same was winning a title. If Jokic never wins a title because his teammates were just never good enough and he keeps up this play into this 30's. There's no rational reason he doesn't rank ahead of Bird, Magic, Hakeem...and even one of my favorite guys ever in Duncan. That's a huge if and I doubt it becomes reality. But as long as Jokic keeps up his play. As long as he keeps playing out of his mind in the playoffs. If he's losing because he's just playing a team that's far more talented, that's on his GM. Not on him.
If you can't see that, again....you do you. But I'd hate everything about sports at that point.
You may rank Jokic ahead of those guys but history definately won't. He will never be ranked historically above those guys if he never wins, that's just a fact. When you have players with that level of talent (and Jokic is not MORE talented than any of them at all), winning becomes the common denominator. Mainly because winning is not always about talent, and the playoffs you are facing the very best competition on a consistent basis, with defenses game planning to stop said elite players. Dirk beat the Heatles for example, so he justifiably moved up in the all time rankings because of that.
If Jokic wins a 3rd MVP, he'll have more MVPs than Curry/Kobe/Shaq/Duncan who have 18 rings between them, and where on dynasty teams. Jokic is going to get compared to those guys. If Jokic doesn't win no one will really care who is teammates were. That's just the cold reality.
During title runsDuncan played alongside 4 HOFers in his career. Robinson, Parker, Manu, and Kawhi.
Curry played alongside 3 HOFers in his career. Klay, Dray, and KD. Possibly Iguodala, too.
Shaq played alongside 3 HOFers in his career. Penny, Kobe, Wade.
Kobe played alongside 2 HOFers in his career. Shaq, Pau. Possibly Artest, too.
If Jokic wins a title this year, it'll be the GOAT carry job in NBA history. *GET THIS* He'll have won a title with none of his teammates ever having been all-stars, let alone HOFers. A title this year would be equal to 3-4 titles because of the ridiculous nature in which it was won.
