If you think this guy is silently gonna retire, you're sorely mistaken. Lebron - of all people - will most likely announce it 1 year in advance and have a parade and a going away ceremony at each game. He *really* thinks very high of himself. Maybe rightly so, but it's mostly cringe. Like that time when he gestured to put a crown on his head. Just pure cringe IMO.

I wish him well, but I can't be the only Laker fan who's tired of his drama. I'm ready to move on to a life without Lebron. I'm fine with Reaves, Rui, Max, and all the other kids Rob plucked from the school parking lot. I'll endure missing the playoffs but at least the diva is gone. It's not like they didn't almost miss the playoffs with Lebron anyway. lol

When was he ever being mysterious or coy about it? It's not like he announced his retirement, then unretired (unlike some former athletes that won't be named).

I normally don't watch the ESPY's but I was on a plane and it was one of the few things available since it was in the LIVE-TV section. I couldn't believe my luck, thought baseball would be the only sports related thing in the summer.

How can you criticize Lebron for making a spectacle of retiring with a farewell tour when Kobe did the same? Nothing wrong with it TBH.

Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.

Pretty amazing. I personally do feel lucky. Did everyone remember to send Bron your thank you message on twitter?

Also yeah, glad I can now rest easy knowing he won't retire. I was worried for a moment when he announced it right after... huh, that's weird, I can't remember what happened right before he said he might retire. Must not have been anything important.

Anyway, don't take your luck for granted fellas. Thank Bron on twitter (or IG).

If LeBron decided to learn Spanish, next year's Espys would include a Best Bilingual Athlete category.

Bron has a pretty good argument as the greatest player of all time. No matter how you feel about him. I think we can all agree on that.

But, does he also have an argument as GDOAT? Greatest Douche of All Time? Who would be the other candidates?

Not a-hole or anything, cause I don't think Bron is an a-hole. He doesn't seem mean-spirited at all.

But out of celebrities on his level, who would be the most purely narcissistic, egomaniacal, insecure, self-aggrandizing, insufferable douche?

Who else would have done this, put a crown on his own head un-ironically, etc.? Maybe we can get a short list. I'm sure there's some actor who would be a challenger to the throne.

Interesting. Haven’t heard anything about the surgery. Do you have the link?

Not an Ahole, just slightly delusional about his persona. Don't know he understands how narcassictic he comes across. I mean All do, but he is just kinda non stop with it. He has no need to "try" so hard either, bro you are that great you don't need to speak about it.

Hey, I actually watched it now and it isn't close to as bad as you guys are describing. What the hell?

It might be a bit a cringe, but it ringed True. It was mostly ok. LeBron had waaaay worse moments. I actually thought he had put a real crown on his head. He didnt.

Some of you guys are truly haters. I bet most didnt even watch the thing. Cant trust judgement on Lebron here.

It's an old way of thinking.

You can be confident and love yourself without constantly having to tell the world that you're the greatest thing God has ever created.

Right but he doesn't, when was the last time he said stuff like this?

Not that I entirely disagree, but I don't mind him throwing his achieved success in everyone’s face. An argument can be made that a majority of fans and pundits expected (or wanted) him to fail because he entered the league with his sights set on being better than MJ. He's heard he can't do this, or that, his entire career and still exceeded expectations in spite of the hype he’s been shouldering since he was 16. We also have to be cognizant of his beginnings; going from impoverished to a billionaire before retirement is unheard of for an NBA player.

Some sources have charted him as one of the most hated athletes in the world. And for what, because he’s a cringy narcissist? A vast majority of players who have achieved far less are too—but you don’t hear about those guys. But I guess hate is a byproduct of greatness.

So yeah, I have no problem with LeBron reminding people of his greatness. Frankly, he should do it more often.

Reactions to everything LeBron does are overblown here (or outright lies), regardless of which way the pendulum swings.

Someone calling you the GOAT is something to be proud of. You going on a marketing campaign of telling everyone you're the GOAT when it is at best very arguable is pathetic.

I think that's more a reflection of conservative cultures people are grown up in that teach them to not celebrate their success or be self-congratulatory. It comes out in this attack on people who freely celebrate themselves and I think it comes from a repressed place. That attitude keeps people down. It's sad, doesn't it make you sad?

It sounds like you're completely dismissing the idea of humility.

It's annoying that you devolve the conversation to basically "You're a sad person for attacking LeBron."

Not dismissing humility, people can be humble if they choose. But dragging down someone for being congratulatory is a negative outcome of humility.

I think it's a sign that enforced humility in our culture has held people down. If you can think this badly of someone for giving themselves props for the fruits of their labour, then I can only imagine what this ugly version of humility has done to your own ability to grow.

Plus people who objectively the top of their field live in exceptional circumstance as it pertains to humility. A key part of humility is knowing you aren't realistically the best at anything. LeBron may be humble in other aspects of life but it would be fake not to acknowledge his basketball ability/career.

If he was out here saying he's the best dad in the world or the best cook in the world or the smartest man in the world then I'd be agreeing with you.

Nobody thought LeBron was retiring. Not when he made his lame comments and not now. He's a cornball attention whore.
