Wembanyama vs. Tatum: Who would you rather have for the 2024-25 season?

I went with Wemby for the Lakers. Tatum would be an awesome fit with us and solve a lot of our problems, but the AD/Wemby frontcourt pairing is too tantalizing.

Your team can add either Victor Wembanyama or Jayson Tatum for one season and one season only, next year the 2024-25 NBA season. You don't have to give anything up for either, but you can only pick one. The Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs are willing to lend them to your team for one year, but after the season they go back to their original team.

I disagree.
People seem to not realize how young the Mavs frontcourt is and Wemby would embarrass them. Tatum will evolve into a much bigger force but Celtics still win the title with Wemby now.

Let Wemby come into the year and actually prove he's better than the current All-NBA guys which I think he'll eventually do by Year 3. Choosing Wemby just based off speculation? What we even doing here?

My gripe was that Wemby wasn’t included as an option in the poll of that thread. You can think he’s not the 6th best player in the league, you can think tatum is, both are fine. I just don’t think you can list the top 15 players and not include him in my opinion.

Tatum is a stud two way star player and i think he is easily a top 10 player in the nba but he has peaked. Wemby could go crazy next year and challenge Joker and Luka for best player in the nba next year.

Wemby would look better than Tatum next season on most teams with good passers but not on the Spurs.

I know Spurs will rest CP3 a lot even for small injuries so that they can tank for next year's draft. Next year's draft is loaded and Spurs will tank for 1 more season so that they can build a real contender around Wemby.

Would you be surprised if he made a huge leap in year 2? I wouldn’t. He’s already the best defensive player in the NBA, a freak of nature and a top basketball prospect of all time. I guess we’ll find out soon.

No I wouldn't. I wouldn't even be surprised if he ACTUALLY became the best defender. But yes I would be surprised if he took a leap that put him in the MVP discussion in year 2.

Wemby’s going to be the DPOY next year barring injury.

Just imagine Wemby surrounded by Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jalen Brown and Al Horford. Its may be the best defense ever assembled.

People seem to focused on offense but the defense is a big part of this.

I’d take Wemby easily over Tatum.

If I was a betting man, I'd take the opposite bet from RealGM GB polls and would probably break even, if not come ahead.

There are a few super smart bball people who still post on the GB, and that's why I still read it. But the vast majority are posters who think they know more than they actually do.

I don't consider myself super knowledgeable about bball either, for what it's worth.

But I've been around long enough to realize that the collective "wisdom" of the GB means close to nothing.

Pick a lane and stick to it. If Wemby is a top 5 player then the Spurs will make the playoffs for sure.

Wemby might be better for teams that have too few basketballs and too few defenders.

Even then, Phoenix is a special case because of the Tatum/Beal relationship.

I said this last season and was called a Jokic hater.

Sorry, but Wemby is something we never seen. The stuff he was doing as a rookie was flat out scary. I remember rookie LeBron and he was not close to the player Wemby was as a rookie.

I'm on record the Spurs will be in the Finals sooner than later. They will be a playoff team this season just because they signed CP3. He's going to do wonders for Wemby just watch. Wemby will finish top 5 in MVP voting this year.

Why do people think in terms of black and white. This is what's wrong with the world.

Wemby can miss out on the playoffs but also challenge to be a top 5 player in the league.

Both things can be true, bases on circumstances and perspective. That's Lebron wasn't better than Curry when he was missing the playoffs with the Lakers.
