Dumbest unwritten rule that needs to go. It’s the nba and you get paid an obscene amount of money to participate in a sport because consumers watch and buy produce.

It’s in there interest to keep it entertaining as much as possible. Don’t let garbage time be complete nothing

I think other sports have said unwritten rule, too.

Like taking shots at a goalie in hockey late in a game that's all but decided is a no no and doing so can result in an ass whooping.

When goal/point differential matters it's understood as different. Otherwise, expect pushback as there's no need for what's seen as unsportsmanlike.

Just curious, is this a American thing, when something like this is unsportsmanlike?

Well if we include hockey, it's more international.

I think running up scores in any sport if the outcome doesn't depend on score differential is looked upon as poor form.

Imagine at the end of a football game if a QB, who was up by 3 TD's, faked taking a knee, and instead tried for a TD.

Of course it would draw ire from other players young and old,.and including teammates.

I don’t think so, predominantly in Football aka soccer, outrageous scores happen from time to time, but no one blinks an eye if teams are running up the score, I just haven’t of this rule so much outside of the States.

Can't comment on soccer as I don't watch it nearly as much. Perhaps it's more accurate to say this is an unwritten rule depending on sport. I think it exists in hockey, as in basketball, again context depending on if cumulative scoring counts.

Tristan Thompson isn't your poster boy for change, in his mind he was answering disrespect with disrespect. He'd never normally do something like that.

fwiw, I like to watch the deep deep bench get some run in garbage time; but if they want to throw away the last 30 or so seconds it doesn't particularly bother me.
