Exactly. A criminal case involves months of preparation and potentially weeks of trial. Every text message, phone call, and in-person encounter is scrutinized. Evidence must be thoroughly presented, depositions taken, witnesses examined, and the burden of proof is “beyond a reasonable doubt” — a far higher standard than in civil matters.
By contrast, making an allegation, issuing a demand, and then walking away is a far easier route that doesn't require the same evidentiary burden or public scrutiny.
That’s not to say he did or didn’t do anything wrong — but the fact that someone has the opportunity to pursue both avenues and chooses only the less rigorous one raises serious questions about their underlying intentions.
I think you kinda nailed the real concerns with NBA guys at the end. It just leaves you wondering about the intentions. Civil is all about money. And...I get it. If someone did you wrong and you can't win a criminal trial with what you have. I get that's the next best thing. But to not try both?
And...and fully not trying to judge anyone. The weird stuff people are into in the bedroom. Rough stuff, role play, violent acts...domination. What would sound to some people like just gross unthinkable things...that might be a kink. Or you said it was to make them think you're like that...
5 years ago, I'd have been far more into the whole "trust women" thing. Now...I just don't trust people with any of this stuff. And there's a part of me that's reached the point, I don't want to say I blame anyone, but I also just feel like people put themselves into such dumb situations that I have lost the empathy I once had.
Bottom line...this is why I like to watch sports and know as little as possible about the athletes. I don't want to have a beer with them. I don't want to hook up with a porn star, model, or actress. They can just go do their thing. And if a game is good or a movie is great. I'll enjoy it for what it is. Not for who is in it...outside of their talents in their craft.
