Why is Calipari worth mentioning?
He's a bad fit for any NBA team. Been there and he's tried it slready.

NIL is probably ruining College for him so coming to the NBA makes sense.

Dolan is looking to proceed forward and not take steps back by hiring Calipari.

If you want to be listing the candidates Knicks would plausibly be looking at, you have to include him in there. I'm NOT SAYING HIRE HIM. Knicks would likely put him on a list of candidates because he's tight with Towns, and Rose, and Wesley. They go way back.

Again, READ MY WORDS - for LIST of candidates, Cal has to be considered a candidate for Knicks. Don't jump to conclusion that I am recommending him to be Knicks coach. And ya never know! It is the Knicks.

You need the coach in place before the draft to have his input.

i cant say the knicks have turned the corner regarding any kind of slo-build process. since they were close this year i think they will take a hard look at a major upgrade and go for the biggest star on the market,,,like they always have - because they're new york

so get the player and then get the coach

say for instance if they have a chance at giannis or somesuch, they are going to drop everything, go grab giannis, AND THEN present the prospective coaches with the roster and say "what do you think you can do with this?"

i am pretty sure the knick org is working behind the scenes as we speak and getting giannis or maybe kd is their prize,,,not hurley or wright or whomever

getting a coach first is only if the coach is the lure for a target player - like if giannis is saying "get me malone and i'm a knick"

Please forget all the Giannis talk, it's just sensationalism and click baits. The Knicks as constituted just went to the ECF and it was their first year together, Where as Indiana and OKC have had the same core for a number of years. OKC took some bumps in last year's playoffs and now look. So we can grow from this and move up.

This management led by Leon Rose has built a nice product already without Giannis and invested lots of capital to do it. No successful organization does the big old go for the fences move after doing so. You have to admit the Knicks are trending up.

That's why the Knicks' perceptoion is so wack because like the Yankees at some point in the past wanted to go for the biggest star. As it stands the Knicks are building those stars organically, methodically, with this executive team lead by Leon Rose and Wes Wesley and the results have been positive.

So I guess what I'm saying is, lets move on from Giannis to the Knicks obvious rumers and let someone else empty their bank account if Giannis is asking out. The Knicks can beat the teams in the East, and are a bright coach from going to the FInals without him already.

Trust me when I say that the Knicks already have an agreement with a coach. Leon Rose would not go into this blindly unless someone was in the wings. That's why if I'm Cleveland you have a hard decision to make if it's Johnnie Bryant.

On the Thibs note, if I were a coach out the on the hot seat, I'd be worried. Thibs is a great coach to get you moving in the right direction and is getting paid handsomely by the Knicks as a $30 million bonus for doing just that. Surely, he'll be in demand for a team in need to right the ship.

It's going to be Spo. Knicks will trade a first round pick or two. That's the vibe I'm getting with some of these tweets.

Yes it was true in the 2010s, but we’re in the 2020s

Is true now again (2020s beyond) possibly, starting yesterday. No joking intended.

Spurs? We are on a rebuild, have been for years. We suck. For the past 6 seasons. No sugar coating anything. We can admit that!

But enuff with the Knicks ( it's been 2 days now going back and forth.... it is what it is...)

Today is the NBA Finals, Indiana/OKC!

It will only become true if they don't get a good replacement. So until that happens, this would be like saying that the Knicks making space to sign Brunson & Hartenstein was a classic "lol knicks" move...and you're just being silly by refusing to acknowledge how good this FO has been.

:-?

Very possible that aint happening.

Oh most definitely. But it's the NBA, we've seen crazier things...especially if Dolan is allowed to throw trucks full of money at the Wolves / Heat until ownership makes their FOs relent.

Good moves and mostly bad moves from the FO in the last 2 decades. Including the most recent event. Past 5 yrs have been good obviously.

As for Spo and Finch. Nah. Ain't happening. But, as you said, who knows.

Anyhow, enuff with the Knicks.

Onto the Pacers/Thunder NBA Finals!!

If Mike gets hired it would be a huge mistake. I called the Lillard/Giannis combo a disaster way before

Same deal. Thibs is a gamer dude literally maxes out smaller PGs. Towns plus Brunson isn't it either btw to win it all

Alot of Malones ability as a coach was shielded away from Jokics brilliance.

It should really be Bud who honestly shouldn't have gotten the boot in the first place (Thibs obv was hard done by too).

How many bad moves has this FO made? The Obi Toppin pick during the pandemic year before snagging Quickley? Trading a heavily protected FRP for Cam Reddish before flipping Cam + another heavily protected FRP for Hart? The Kemba & Fournier signings? It's been almost entirely good moves from this FO...despite the FOs of the previous two decades being a disaster.

But yeah, onto the big bad west putting the two-team east in its place, like everyone spent all season berating me about...

Yeah I'm pretty sure Monty coached himself out of any possible future jobs after Detroit, he's coaching boys basketball and never deserves another job in the NBA. Malone is just the obvious pick because he's a big name and has been recently news-worthy, but I don't think he's a solution either.

New York needs to take a look at what they want their offense to be. We know what they are defensively, but things cannot go the way they did for them on offense how it did when Thibs was in control. A roster with that much talent, and 75% of the plays are Brunson isos, or KAT faceup drives or a 3. Brunson and KAT do not play together well. It's almost like no actions are ran with the two of them at the same time. Bridges basically has turned into taking horrible mid range fallaways and bricking threes. The offense does not play together, at all. I don't even think the core is a great fit to be honest, but they have enough talent to make it work.

they need a coach that can design an offense that uses the tools at their disposal, because right now they are talented enough to win a championship, but are crap compared to teams like the Pacers who have much less. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see.

Good luck finding a coach the players will respect to get them to change how they play. KAT and Brunson have seen their style of play rewarded with all-NBA and all-star appearances. The best thing a new coach can do is try to devise a plan to make them more efficient at what they want to do, because they're probably not changing at this stage in their careers.

I'll give him a chance if that is the move, but let's just say I'm skeptical that Kidd can do as well as Thibs.

What does "do as well as Thibs" mean?
Do you think this roster isn't capable to win 50 games regardless of the coach?
The talent alone cements them as a top 4 seed for the next 3-4 years.
Last season alone was proof of concept.
The Knicks failed to forge an identity all season long. On the court, they failed to maximize the value of their top end talent for significant stretches.
This isn't really arguable.
There most played lineup played and the most played lineup in the league by far (Towns, OG, Hart, Bridges Brunson) had a -1.4 net rating after January first. He had no adjustment whatsoever to teams putting their center on Hart.

This isn't about the Knicks floor being effected. Their floor is solid for the next 4 years. Its about the margins. Talent wise they can be right there.
Will Kidd be able to push them over the hump in a playoff series with a more modern approach to the game? We shall see

If the result is Jason **** Kidd as coach with old man Durant replacing KAT (and no other roster tweaks), then I'm taking another break from these boards to focus on my drinking....

If they go after Kidd, does that mean Giannis becomes the next target?

That's what I'm hearing considering Giannis' relationship with Kidd. The firing would then make total sense.

If we get Giannis with Kidd--and yet still retain at least three of Brunson, KAT, OG, Robinson, Mikal and Hart--then I will ask my kids to (re)name all my grandkids either "Leon" or "Rose."

Bro, there is zero chance of that happening. Someone from that core 5 is going for Giannis, you'd be lucky to retain 4 of the 5. My guess is KAT.
