Toppin was better Pacer come playoffs time than Myles Fricking Turner , sorry but that is the truth and I watched every single game

Toppin can't be used as a starting C, and Toppin was not better defensively

This is why the new CBA is trash, you make the Finals and immediately have to break up the team

He wasnt traded, MIL waiving Dame, its a straight up signing.

I know. I misfired on the meme :(

Good meme tho, could have worked perfectly. But it is funny how every year we thought Turner will be gone, and when we think he finally settles for good, hes gone.

I love Thanos, what a great villain.

No.

Pacers chose not to pay the tax.

It’s on them. Pay for the winner you built. This is not a 2nd apron hard cap casualty.

I’m sad to see Myles leave Indy.

I think perhaps Hali’s injury was key here. It’s not just that the Pacers likely won’t be contenders next year, but that Myles is older than the rest of the Pacer core. If the believe that Myles will get worse year to year, re-signing him would mean signing him specifically to contend in his weaker years.

Turner is easily replaceable by many much cheaper C , he wasn’t special and most of the time he was straight up bad

They don't have any bad contracts in year 3-5 so they are better shape to absorb it. And there is a decent chance Giannis is gone year 3-5 so that is probably money they need to hit the salary floor.

They didn't lose any assets and able to add a legit starting center.

Delusional, they're not paying the tax because they don't want to deal with future penalties. The new CBA doesn't let you keep paying guys in a throw away year when you have to deal with injuries. In the current CBA KG Celtics would have been broken up after his injury, Rose Bulls, etc

A guy his size that can shoot and block shots is not easily replaceable.

Outside true star players thats the most in demand skillset in the league.

Yup. Makes sense.

The Pacers may well have had their approach to Myles change when Hali fell.

Scoring, yes.
Defense? Nope.

And I expect his efficiency from deep to improve frankly in Milwaukee

Rafael122 wrote:Bill Simmons mentions how the apron makes it harder for teams to build dynasties. There's also the piece that owners are just cheap. How many home playoff games did the Pacers have this year? You're making millions per game. They couldn't afford Turner's deal?

If Hali doesn’t tear his Achilles this doesn’t happen.

Pacers are thinking about what happens beyond next year. Mathurin will be given the keys next year, and with Turner signed it would have been nearly impossible to retain him if he balls out, which I think he probably will. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. Now that entire consideration has changed.

Also by reacquiring their pick, the possibility of a mini-tank is on the table. Pacers can play and evaluate the young guys, and actually have the money to keep them now if they play well, and can address the center position later. Pacers have all their picks going forward.

Paying the tax in a clear non-contending year while potentially pricing out their young talent would have been a bad long term move. All for what, to be a tough out in the second round? This is smart long term planning going on here.

Bucks waived him so they eat the salary less anything the new team will pay him.

Instead of eating it once, they stretched the prorated salary into future years to take a smaller hit per year as the waived salary still counts against their payroll and they wanted enough space to sign Turner.

Pacers defense was solid as a collective defense , Nembhard Hali Obi , not fricking Myles alone

Great move for the Bucks next year but horrible move for the Bucks the 4 years after that.

Problem is that Turner doesnt even put the Bucks in championship contention. They have the worst guard rotation in the nba.
