Give him to Ime Udoka, he'll fix him real quick. That's his specialty (defense, off ball game, effort, shot selection).

Convince me I'm wrong that he's not the least winning player I've ever seen in 30 years of watching the NBA. Give me a reason why any team should want him.

The Hornets - IMO - should trade him for a used washing machine and a 2032 4th round pick tomorrow if they can so their franchise can move on. I don't care what points he can put up, those points absolutely cannibalize any semblance of a team game.

Me trying to come up with anything to defend Lamelo….

I'll try to argue against my own point...

For one, I give credit to those who place a significant amount of blame on the Hornets roster. I'll even take some blame that I didn't know just how god awful their roster truly was until I making this thread.

Like, it's a truly trash roster, they're maybe 4 players deep before that roster just goes into absolute g-league territory. What exactly is that FO doing? It'a almost impressive how little they have collected.

So, I give some credit to those faulting the roster, it's a tall order to do much with a roster THAT bad.

But my rebuttal is that I've seen it done before. The ones that are truly great can lift up sub-par or even just flat out bad rosters.

Someone mentioned it earlier... He's an influencer masquerading as a basketball player. He's playing his game to the highlight clip TikTok generation vs actually to win games.

And just like that he drops 38, 13 and 13 to make us both look like **** seriously though I still think everything you’ve said is accurate. Lamelo has picked up bad habits and probably went to one of the worst organizations to develop. I think the Hornets have their core, they need to bring in more vets and a coach that will get into his ass and hold him accountable.

As for the point about him being an influencer, the best description I’ve heard about watching Lamelo play is that he plays basketball like he’s got AirPods in. And I can’t stop seeing that now

i watched him in person last night put a 38 point triple double, dude made it looks effortless. It felt like every shot was going to fall, and he had almost no issue making his own shot, if he isn't an All Star this year it would be a colossal failure of the Hornets

Hornets roster is actually good right now. One of the deeper rosters in the league. Last year everybody was hurt though.

Here are the top 8 Hornets in total minutes played from last year.

Miles Bridges
Josh Green
LaMelo Ball
Nick Smith Jr (waived this summer)
Tidjane Salaun
Moussa Diabate
Mark Williams
Dequan Jeffries (waived this summer)

Hornets were 16-31 when LaMelo played last year. 3-32 when LaMelo did not play.

The LaMelo is the problem crowd are just a bunch of haters and casuals who really don't know what is going on with the Hornets.

Put him on a solid defensive team, he's the same as Cade Cunningham.

We struggle evaluating players on awful teams.

Hornets were 16-31 when LaMelo played last year.

Why stop there?

In games he attempted 25+ FGAs they were 4-12.

In games he committed 4+ turnovers they were 5-18.

In games he passed for 8+ assists they were 10-11.

Maybe he should concentrate on being a low turnover pass first PG and not a chucker. Last season he lead all PGs in the league in FGAs/min, but he had 11 teammates (400+ minutes played) that shot better on 2s than he did.

**** every single one of the haters

None of you have watched enough Charlotte basketball to have even close to a valid opinion on him or the team’s struggles. And no amount of statistical analysis will help you.

I’ve tried for years to educate people on the massive tragedy of the Hornets and the dearth of talent around a budding superstar in LaMelo but no one ever wanted to listen or learn. I’m done now. I no longer care. You all are stupid, lazy, unthinking.

I will laugh and laugh and laugh as he ascends to one of the best players in the NBA. You all deserve the egg on your face.

The same exact thing happened last year. Lamelo was putting up monster numbers, people start puffing their chest about him being a superstar..then he gets injured...

I think hes a quality player though..its a shame how all these injuries for cha have hurt their growth as a team. I mean heck, bmiller is already injured this year.

Did you watch the team last year? Are you familiar with the roster?

Sounds like you don’t get how much creation he had to do last year and how poor that team was.

Preach my guy. I like the team around him, but its still not good enough at all tbf given where the have picked recently. They need Miller to stay healthy. I really like Diabate, a beast of a rebounder, and Kon is a good roleplayer. Sion James will see a lot of minutes and seems to just be flat out better than Salaun. Imagine if you get Matas, or a player ley Ky George, then its suddenly looking real good. Even Ron Holland. But you cant not stay healthy and in the meantime miss on such important picks, then the narrative about Melo will unfortunately never change.

The hate with Lamelo is pathological and you cannot help these people. This thread is an excellent example of it. They refuse to see the truth, in fact, they deny it with their entire being. LaMelo being good at basketball breaks their entire view of basketball, teambuilding, player evaluation, statistical analysis, and their overall worldview as human beings entirely.

That is why they reject him. They do not want to believe he can be good. One day they will eat their words.

They are far from an awful team this year.

They are playing hard.

They need Miller fit, as he was looking great and demands as much respect as Ball or will make you pay, which really helps Ball.

The change in Ball is evident imo, it’s probably not even on a stats sheet. Hes hustling harder, diving for balls and doing far more team oriented things. Maybe the penny has dropped a little bit that between all the injuries etc, his career is quickly passing him by.

Kon has been a really important recruit. You watch him closely and everything he does has impact. Always moving, he spaces for Lamelo. Looks exactly the kind of guy you want leading a team with Lamelo in it in the future.

I’m high on them if they can have some injury luck. Ball and Miller is as talented young guard/wing duo as there is, and Kon’s ceiling is a Kevin love type third piece
