I couldn't really care less about the instigation/retaliation discussion. Morris's play could have ended Jokic's season and derailed his career. He just kneed him the side of the knee. That should be a multi-game suspension.

Even if Morris is a bleep we probably don't need to see him suffer a spinal injury during a live basketball game, which could have legit happened. It just crosses some kind of line for me. (But I'll get over it haha.)
I dunno, it looks like Morris was baiting Jokic and turned his back knowing a retaliation might happen. Morris is no idiot, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Shaq and Chuck pretty much summed it up. If you want to do what Morris did then don't turn around because you are getting hit either way. If a dude does what Morris did and then just keeps on walking like he did nothing I am not going to run all the way in front of him, he better be ready for what's about to happen. It's a cheap shot for a cheap shot, Jokic just dished it out with more force.
Jokic sent his message yesterday that you better stop testing me like I am some kind of sample. He had the kind of reaction the kind natured bullied kid has when he finally snaps it almost felt like.
I am also laughing at all the extra fake tough guy stuff the Heat and Marcus Morris have been doing since yesterday. Like Lowry and Adebayo are going to do anything. Or Jimmy is going to walk up to Jokic and do something, most probably get the Nene treatment.
Suspend them both, you want to suspend Jokic for an extra game because of the retalliation that's fine.
This is essentially what I was going to say. I don't think what Jokic did was cheap at all. Temper???? Man...I would've straight up clocked Morris in the back of the head had that been me. You can see that that's exactly what Jokic wanted to do. I think it took INCREDIBLE self restraint to pull that punch back, and in the end do this really awkward half-arm shove-hit thing with his body weight. Anyone who buys Morris' soccer collapse must think the WWE is real.
I challenge anyone to go to the local park and hit some dude in the ribs like that....and then turn and walk away. See how that goes.

Yep. The message is it's ok to hit stars because they'll be out and your team has the advantage. Let's say this was during the playoffs, Morris's team would clearly have the advantage here. THe NBA is perpetuating the problem with this punishment.
I would hope, and expect, that Jokic would not have retaliated in a playoff game. But I also think it would have been reasonable to suspend Morris.

Morris needs one game out for that dirty sheet.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

Yeah, Supersonics fans aren't really known for keeping up with the current events in the NBA.
Sorry, I had to

Who is this Jokic guy by the way? Sounds European. Did he play against Detlef Schrempf yet? Is he any better?

GREY 1769 wrote:bbalnation wrote:GREY 1769 wrote:Can you be explicit in stating what you think that reason is?
YouTube has Laimbeer videos as the dirtiest player ever. Interviews with players have Laimbeer as the dirtiest player. A former player has explicitly expressed his hatred for Laimbeer in this thread. There's no evidence for Morris hate being louder than for Laimbeer in the broader sense. In the context of this thread yes sure the hate for Morris is loud because it pertains specifically to this exchange with Jokic and Jokic's retaliation.
But then again this isn't a thread comparing hatred for Laimbeer versus Morris. If there were one, Laimbeer would win it.
One example: do you think Markieff Morris will have the same access to a coaching gig as Bill Laimbeer, who leveraged his playing career? I think in today's world, Markieff would have some challenges.
Whether because of familiarity (we're more comfortable around people who think and look like us), public perception, where he was raised, how he chooses to present himself, etc.
We're not talking about jobs. But if we acknowledge that could be a realistic possibility, then isnt it possible that fans & certain media outlets tend to express their anger a bit more for certain players more than others? There's bias in media. There's bias in perspective.
What? What turn did you just make lol
A WNBA coaching gig?
This doesn't address any points I made. Laimbeer is flat out the dirtiest player and most hated guy for it as evidenced by... all the guys who have publicly stated that they flat out hate him for all the dirty plays he made.
Laimbeer is a rich guy's son who didn't need NBA money. He was always going to have doors open for him regardless of his chosen profession. Inherited wealth is an Amex black card to certain circles.
There are certain former players who excel in the coaching/FO/media. Several of them have already commented on this Morris/Jokic exchange and despite 'familiarity' have decidedly sided with Jokic.
I have no idea whether the Morris twins will or won't go the coaching/FO/media route post-playing careers but you're already insinuating a glass ceiling of media bias or skewed perspectives 'in today's world'. What does this hypothetical tangent have to do with anything?
Im pointing out an example. I think that fanhood anger of Markieff and Marcus probably surpasses the Laimbeer hate. You pointed out early that you disagree. I dont. I think fans may think Laimbeer is dirtier, but they project a similar type of anger.
NOT players, who you keep pointing out, who actually see what's going on, but fans.
Past NBA players side with Jokic in this ONE PLAY. Theres nothing thats suggests its because of their histories.

People defending either Morris or Jokic are wrong. Neither has a moral high ground. They both did something stupid. Is that really hard to admit?
Is Morris an ass? Absolutely!

Jokic looks like an ass to some Heat fans like yourself and barely anyone else. Jokic just stood up to the bully and that's how this will be remembered and there's not much you can do about it. I know you have to keep supporting Morris because he's on your team, so I understand your choice to live in your dream world where they look equally bad, but as you can see everywhere where this topic is discussed, 99% of people are siding with Jokic on this one.

I'm not a Heat fan or a Nuggets fan and Jokic absolutely looks like a clod here.
Maybe it's because I'm not in denial about his history of lowbrow play either.
Neither guy is spotless.

Man, I imagine guys like SJax, Ron Arrest, Al Harrington, etc who got suspended left right and centre for way less are probably so confused by this 1 game Nikola suspension lol.
Kanter was very physical with Jokic in that series , trying to slow him down by pushing and shoving . Booker was trying to be a tough guy after he fouled Payne, little bit of pushing between them thats all.
Very physical? Lol. What in the world.
When I think Enes Kanter, I think very physical and therefore a person who is worthy of having his shoulder purposely dislocated by Nikola Jokic (?????), not the humanitarian that tries to play the game the right way. I'm being sarcastic here.
This isn't Nikolas first time. Theres a pattern. I provided two of maybe 5 or 6 videos on YouTube. and here we are obsessing over Markieffs dirty plays? Hes never tried to take out someone's shoulder like that as far as I know.
Markieff is guilty here too and he took the first dirty push, after taking some little shots all game, when he's known to do that. But let's be reasonable and see things from all angles.

So, a guy his size charging a player in the back, his shoulder and elbow thrown into a smaller player's spine is completely cool with you people?FinnTheHuman wrote:BBallFreak wrote:People defending either Morris or Jokic are wrong. Ya know, Morris can be an ass, deserve some comeuppance, get his comeuppance, and the guy who gave it to him can be wrong as well.
Both things can be true at the same time.
There is no player that I would look at and think they deserve a guy Jokic's size blasting them in the spine with no chance to defend himself. None. Wrong is wrong. Thankfully, the NBA doesn't share your ideas, though I think they got it wrong. Both players should have been suspended...

It was a sucker hit. Like a sucker punch. He hit someone from behind.
That's weak punk stuff. Jokic is a giant baby and a coward for doing that. You don't hit someone from behind like that. He hit someone from behind, snapping their neck violently, in retaliation for what amounts to a hard-ish foul in a professional basketball game.
Jokic should be suspended for 30 games in my opinion.
